AEW Dynamite’s reported linear audience was lower in Q4 2025 than in Q4 2024, but those figures are not a clean measure of how many people watched AEW across all platforms. The year-over-year comparison crosses a change in Nielsen’s measurement method, and Nielsen’s linear figures exclude the HBO Max simulcast audience. The available evidence shows a decline in reported linear ratings; it does not establish one definitive cause.
What the reported ratings show
Wrestlenomics reported these average Nielsen-derived figures for Dynamite in Q4 2025 compared with Q4 2024:

These are quarterly averages, not a comparison of individual episodes. P2+ refers to the reported total audience measure; P18-49 is the rating for viewers aged 18 to 49. They describe different metrics, so the 19% and 53% changes should not be treated as competing estimates of the same audience loss. Wrestlenomics published the figures on January 6, 2026.
Why the comparison needs a measurement caveat
The Q4 comparison spans a Nielsen methodology change. Wrestlenomics identifies September 26, 2025, as the point when AEW ratings began using Nielsen’s Big Data + Panel system; earlier ratings used panel-only methodology. That means Q4 2024 and Q4 2025 were not measured in exactly the same way. The reported drop is real as a comparison of published figures, but it is not a controlled before-and-after test that isolates how much audience behavior changed.

What Big Data + Panel added
Nielsen said its new system combined its representative persons panel with viewing data from cable and satellite set-top boxes and smart TVs. In its September 2, 2025 announcement, Nielsen described data coverage of 45 million U.S. households and 75 million devices, alongside a persons panel covering more than 42,000 homes and 100,000 people. Nielsen called the approach its most accurate measurement to date; that is Nielsen’s own characterization, not an independent assessment.
Wrestlenomics noted that wrestling-program measurements were lower following the change. That makes the methodology shift a plausible contributor to the year-over-year comparison, but the figures do not show that it accounts for the entire difference.

Do AEW ratings include HBO Max viewers?
No: the Nielsen linear figures for Dynamite and Collision exclude their HBO Max simulcast audiences. Wrestlenomics reported on October 6, 2025, that a WBD spokesperson said: “AEW’s Dynamite and Collision linear viewership information reported by Nielsen (still) does not include HBO Max streaming viewership.”
So the Nielsen figures describe linear viewing, not AEW’s total audience across television and streaming. But the missing Max audience cannot be used to dismiss the reported decline: there is no consistent public series in the evidence here that compares Max and linear viewers over time. Without that series, it is not possible to tell whether streaming gains offset any portion of the linear decrease.

How much could the broader cable decline explain?
The decline in Dynamite’s reported linear audience is happening as traditional pay-TV viewing shrinks. The Associated Press reported in September 2024, citing Nielsen figures, that 87% of U.S. homes had a cable or satellite subscription in 2015, compared with 47% in 2023. That long-term shift helps explain why a cable rating is only one part of the viewing picture. It does not establish how much cord-cutting caused Dynamite’s specific year-over-year decline.
WBD’s Q2 2026 results, released August 6, 2026, reported a 10% decrease in domestic linear pay-TV subscribers and a 17% decline in domestic audience. Those company-wide figures provide more recent industry context, not an AEW-specific explanation. WBD also attributed part of its advertising revenue decline to domestic audience declines and the absence of NBA programming; that attribution concerns the company’s broader results, not Dynamite’s ratings.

What AEW’s distribution deal does—and does not—tell us
In an October 2024 announcement, WBD said AEW programming would continue on TBS and TNT and added distribution on Max, including live simulcasts and a library. WBD also said AEW programming had reached more than 33 million fans that year and that Dynamite ranked as Wednesday’s number-one cable entertainment program among P18-49. Those are WBD’s claims and refer to its stated timeframe. The “reached” figure is not the average audience for an episode, and neither claim supplies a consistent year-over-year count of linear and streaming viewers combined.

Not from these figures alone. The reported averages show a decline in Nielsen-measured linear viewing, with a change in measurement method inside the comparison. They do not identify whether creative decisions, roster changes, competing programming, schedule changes, audience satisfaction, or other factors caused the change. Making a confident claim about any one of those would require separate evidence, such as comparable episode-level data and a defensible way to separate the effects.

The clearest conclusion is limited but useful: Dynamite’s reported linear averages were down in Q4 2025 year over year, especially in the P18-49 rating. The numbers do not represent all-platform AEW viewership, and the measurement break makes the size of the audience change harder to interpret as a pure trend.
