To check your EPF balance online, sign in to the official EPFO Member Passbook portal with your UAN and password. You can also check by missed call or SMS from the mobile number registered with your UAN, or view your passbook through the official UMANG app. The portal and UMANG provide passbook access; the phone options are quick enquiries.
Which EPFO balance-check method should you use?

How can I check my EPFO balance online?
- Open the official EPFO Member Passbook portal.
- Enter your UAN and password, complete the displayed captcha, and sign in.
- Open the relevant passbook to review its recorded contributions and balance.
This portal is the best option when you want to inspect the passbook rather than make a quick enquiry. If you cannot access the account, use the official portal rather than a third-party site.
How to check EPF balance by missed call
- Call 9966044425 from the mobile number registered with your UAN.
- The call should disconnect after two rings; EPFO describes the service as free.
EPFO’s missed-call instructions require at least one of these details to be seeded to the UAN: a bank account number, Aadhaar or PAN. If the call does not work, confirm that you are calling from the registered mobile and that this KYC condition is met. The live EPFO passbook page also displays the enquiry number, so check it for current contact details.

How to check PF balance by SMS
- From the mobile number registered with your UAN, send EPFOHO UAN to 7738299899.
- English is the default language according to EPFO’s 12 March 2018 release. That release describes ten language options; to request another listed language, add its first three characters after UAN. Its Telugu example is EPFOHO UAN TEL.
The language directions are from a 2018 EPFO release. Check the live EPFO passbook page for current instructions before relying on a language code.
Can I check my EPF passbook in UMANG?
Yes. EPFO documents member passbook viewing through UMANG, and its employee information booklet identifies UMANG as the official app for EPFO services. Use the official UMANG government service or the app listing from your device’s official app store; avoid unofficial apps claiming to provide EPFO services.

What if the passbook is unavailable?
Exempted establishment
If you work for an exempted establishment and your passbook is unavailable through EPFO, contact your establishment for a PF statement. EPFO’s employee information booklet directs members in this situation to the establishment.
Phone enquiry does not work
- For missed calls and SMS, use the mobile number registered with your UAN.
- For a missed call, confirm that a bank account number, Aadhaar or PAN is seeded to the UAN.
- For a detailed record, try the Member Passbook portal or UMANG rather than relying only on a quick phone enquiry.
Protect your UAN and personal details
The official passbook portal warns members not to share Aadhaar, PAN, bank details or OTPs in response to calls, and not to pay callers claiming to be EPFO. Use EPFO’s official portal and services, and do not disclose authentication codes to anyone.
