If you mean the Amazon catalog number, open the product listing and look under Product Details for its ASIN. Amazon defines an ASIN as a unique 10-digit identifier for a catalog item. If you need a number from a package, a book, a past order, or a seller account, you may be looking for a different identifier.
Find the ASIN on an Amazon product page
- Open the Amazon listing for the product.
- Go to the Product Details section.
- Look for the field labeled ASIN. Amazon’s glossary identifies Product Details as the place where the ASIN appears: Amazon Associates Central glossary.
The ASIN is Amazon’s catalog identifier, not necessarily the barcode number printed on the item. Product-page layouts can change, so look for the Product Details section rather than relying on a fixed screen position.
Which Amazon item number do you need?
| Identifier | What it identifies | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| ASIN | An item in Amazon’s catalog; a 10-digit Amazon identifier. | Product Details on the Amazon listing. |
| UPC, EAN, JAN, or ISBN | An industry product identifier, often used with a barcode. | Usually above or below the barcode on packaging; a book’s ISBN may also appear on its cover. |
| Order-item-id | An item within a particular order; it is not the product ASIN and can differ from order to order. | Orders Report or Order Details in Manage Orders, according to Amazon. |
| Seller SKU | A seller’s own inventory identifier, distinct from the catalog ASIN. | Seller inventory or listing records; Amazon’s Inventory Reports guidance treats SKU and ASIN as separate listing details. |
ASIN versus UPC, EAN, JAN, and ISBN
An ASIN belongs to Amazon’s catalog. UPC, EAN, JAN, and ISBN are product identifiers used beyond Amazon; Amazon’s US seller guidance calls these GTIN product identifiers and explains where to find them on packaging: Find your product ID (GTIN).
The formats differ: Amazon’s guidance describes UPCs as 12 digits, ISBNs as 10 or 13 digits, EANs and JANs as 13 digits, and GTIN-14s as 14 digits. These format descriptions do not make the identifiers interchangeable. For books, do not assume the ISBN is the ASIN: Amazon notes that with the introduction of 13-digit ISBNs, the two are not guaranteed to match.

Find a number for a past Amazon order
If a form or support request asks for an order-item-id, use the order records rather than the product listing. Amazon says the order-item-id is available in the Orders Report and on the Order Details page in Manage Orders. It identifies the item in that specific order and is not the catalog ASIN. See Amazon’s Shipping confirmation glossary.
If you are adding a product as an Amazon seller
In Seller Central, Amazon’s Add Products workflow lets sellers search the catalog or enter a product identifier such as a UPC, EAN, ISBN, or ASIN to find a matching listing. This is a seller workflow, not where shoppers look up an ASIN on a product page. Amazon’s US instructions are in Add one product at a time. Product-ID requirements and exemptions can vary by category and marketplace; the cited GTIN guidance is scoped to the United States.
