Axie Infinity combines virtual-pet interactions with collectible digital Axies, breeding and tactical battles. AXS is a separate ERC-20 governance token—not a creature or a physical pet. The claim that AXS “increased by 66%” cannot be confirmed without a defined date range and named price source, so it should not be treated as an established return.
What is Axie Infinity?
Axie Infinity is a digital pet universe and game built around Axies: collectible digital game assets that players can use in battles and, under the game’s breeding system, combine to produce offspring. The experience also includes virtual-pet actions such as feeding, petting and putting Axies to sleep.

Three things are easy to conflate but are different: Axies are game assets, AXS is a token, and Origins and Classic are versions of the game. Owning or using one does not automatically mean owning the others.
What is AXS?
Axie Infinity Shards (AXS) is an ERC-20 governance token for the Axie universe, according to Axie Infinity’s official token page. The page describes roles for AXS in staking rewards, marketplace payments, the Community Treasury and ecosystem governance. AXS is not an Axie creature, and the token’s functions do not make it a physical pet or a share in a conventional company.

The title’s 66% increase claim has no stated start or end date. A market-history source reviewed for early October 2026 showed daily price candles but did not verify that exact percentage or identify the comparison window. Without dated observations and a named exchange or market-data provider, the figure cannot be evaluated as a return; the available evidence also does not establish a cause for such a move.
How does Axie battle work?
Axie Classic
Axie Infinity’s official white paper describes Classic, released in December 2019, as a turn-based card battler. Players field teams of Axies, and cards correspond to Axie body parts. That is the white paper’s description; it should not be assumed that every current mode follows identical rules.

Axie Origins
The same white paper describes Origins as an evolution of the tactical-card format, with sequential turns, free starter Axies and progression involving Runes and Charms. Sky Mavis support describes Origins as a battle version with a new interface, mechanics, art and onboarding. These descriptions distinguish the versions without suggesting that the modes are interchangeable.
How does Axie breeding work?
The official breeding guide says offspring may inherit parts and traits from either parent. It describes Axies as having six body parts and one of nine classes. The guide lists a breeding cost of 0.5 AXS plus a variable amount of SLP, with the SLP amount depending on how many times the parents have been bred.

That is the guide’s published figure, not a guaranteed current fee: the page was updated in March 2024, and game fees can change. Anyone considering breeding should check the live in-game cost before committing tokens or assets.
Can you play Axie Origins without buying Axies?
Sky Mavis support says Origins is free to download and play on Android, PC and MacOS, and provides three free non-NFT starter Axies, with more Axies unlockable through play. The support article notes Google Play Store and iOS App Store availability in select regions; actual store access may therefore vary by location. The free starter access it describes should not be confused with ownership of NFT Axies.

How is Axie Infinity different from Tamagotchi?
The comparison is useful only for the virtual-pet interaction. Sky Mavis’s official history describes feeding, petting and putting Axies to sleep “like a Tamagotchi.” Those are familiar care-like actions, but Axie Infinity also includes collectible blockchain assets, breeding and tactical battles. Tamagotchi is not thereby a blockchain game, and Axie Infinity is not simply another version of the original Tamagotchi product.

Axie’s game systems and its token economics overlap, but they answer different questions: game access and battle rules concern how someone plays, while AXS and digital Axie assets concern blockchain-based tokens or collectibles. Token prices, game mechanics and fees can change. The unverified 66% headline is not a sound basis for assessing performance or deciding whether to participate.
