What happened in Swiggy’s Rapido stake sale?
On September 23, 2025, ETtech reported that Swiggy planned to sell its approximately 11.8% holding in Rapido to existing investors Prosus and Westbridge Capital for around ₹2,400 crore. ETtech calculated a transaction-implied Rapido valuation of ₹20,330 crore, or about $2.3 billion. ETtech’s September 2025 transaction report is the source for those figures.
Swiggy’s FY2026 results later said it completed the sale of its entire investment in Roppen Transportation Services Private Limited, Rapido’s operator, for ₹2,399 crore during the year ended March 31, 2026, following board and shareholder approvals. The disclosure confirms the completion and recorded consideration, but does not give an exact closing date. Swiggy’s FY2026 disclosure records that amount.
How should the $2.3 billion figure be interpreted?
The “doubles” comparison is between ETtech’s approximately $2.3 billion transaction-implied valuation in 2025 and the $1.1 billion valuation ETtech associated with Rapido’s 2024 fundraising. These are reported valuations from different transactions and dates, not audited operating metrics or a guarantee of what the company could be sold for. The $2.3 billion figure should therefore be read as an estimate derived from the reported share sale, not as Rapido’s current audited value or an independent appraisal.

Valuation coverage differed. Hindustan Times reported that Moneycontrol had estimated Rapido at $2.7–3 billion, compared with ETtech’s $2.3 billion figure. That higher estimate is a competing media report, not an independently verified figure here. Hindustan Times’ coverage relays the difference.

The two components total ₹2,379.5 crore, less than the approximately ₹2,399–2,400 crore overall consideration reported by Swiggy and ETtech. The sources do not explain the difference, so the component figures should not be treated as a complete reconciliation of the total.
What does Rapido do?
Swiggy’s prospectus describes Roppen Transportation Services Private Limited as an on-demand, technology-based transportation aggregator for two-wheelers and four-wheelers operating through the Rapido mobile application. That description identifies the business but does not establish its current product features, market share or operating performance.

Why did Swiggy sell its Rapido stake?
The cited transaction reports and Swiggy’s FY2026 disclosure establish the sale, buyers and consideration, but do not state Swiggy’s reason for exiting. The transaction figures alone do not establish whether the sale reflected a strategic decision, a portfolio choice or another motive.
