The film was estimated to earn $40 million in U.S. and Canadian theaters from Friday, August 1, through Sunday, August 3, 2025. Paul Dergarabedian, Comscore’s senior media analyst, called the drop surprising given the film’s strong reviews, according to AP. The reported figures establish the size of the decline, but do not establish a specific cause for it.
Where did The Naked Gun rank, and what was its opening?
The Naked Gun debuted in third place, behind The Fantastic Four: First Steps and The Bad Guys 2. Its estimated North American opening-weekend gross was $17 million, according to AP’s Sunday report (AP).

The Numbers’ domestic daily chart gives a more precise but different figure: $4,555,351 for Sunday, August 3, and $16,805,560 through that day. The latter is the chart’s cumulative-to-Sunday figure, not a final weekend result; it should not be mistaken for the $17 million Sunday estimate (The Numbers).

The weekend estimates cover ticket sales in U.S. and Canadian theaters over August 1–3. AP attributed its box-office list to Comscore and noted that final domestic figures were due Monday, so the reported estimates could change. The Sunday daily chart tracks a single day as well as a cumulative figure through that date; those measurements are not interchangeable with a finalized weekend report.

- The Fantastic Four: First Steps: No. 1 in its second weekend; estimated $40 million and a 66% week-over-week decline.
- The Bad Guys 2: No. 2.
- The Naked Gun: No. 3 in its opening weekend; estimated $17 million.
The ranking and weekend estimates are useful for understanding how each title performed in that particular frame. The opening for The Naked Gun and the second-weekend result for The Fantastic Four: First Steps represent different release stages, so their grosses are not like-for-like comparisons.
