The notice described the posts as temporary and said the number could increase or decrease, so 181 was the advertised vacancy count—not a guaranteed final appointment total. Applications for this 2024 recruitment should not be assumed to be open now.
What RPSC announced
RPSC, Ajmer, issued Advertisement No. 19/Exam/A.P.O./Prosecution Deptt./EP-I/2023-24 on 7 March 2024. It invited online applications for Assistant Prosecution Officer posts under the Rajasthan Prosecution Subordinate Service Rules, 1978, for non-scheduled areas, and the Rajasthan Scheduled Areas Subordinate, Ministerial and Class-IV Service Rules, 2014, for scheduled areas. The advertisement listed 181 posts and noted that the number could be revised.
The available record does not establish the final number of vacancies filled or a reliable category-wise vacancy breakdown. The advertisement is available from RPSC’s recruitment advertisements page.
How the 2024 exam scheme was structured
The recruitment-specific RPSC scheme described an objective preliminary examination followed by a written mains examination. Preliminary marks were not to count toward final selection. In the preliminary exam, law subjects carried 70% of the weight and Hindi and English language proficiency together carried 30%. See the RPSC scheme and syllabus documents for the recruitment.

Other RPSC scheme documents do not describe an identical selection process. One separate syllabus document describes an objective exam and an interview, with 150 law marks, 50 language marks and a 25-mark interview. Do not assume that this separate, interview-based scheme applies to the 2024 recruitment; use the scheme attached to the applicable notice and any amendments.
What the syllabus covered
The official syllabus for the recruitment was law-heavy, with criminal and related statutes alongside General Hindi and General English. The listed laws included:
Rank #2
- Indian Penal Code, 1860
- Indian Evidence Act, 1872
- Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973
- Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989
- Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012
- Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015
- Probation of Offenders Act, 1958
- Arms Act, 1959
- Rajasthan Excise Act, 1950
- Rajasthan public-examination legislation
For preparation, check study materials against the syllabus for statutory coverage, edition date and the accuracy of amendments to the bare acts. The separate RPSC scheme documents are not interchangeable, so verify that a guide follows the 2024 recruitment scheme rather than another APO exam. The syllabus names the Indian Penal Code, making an IPC bare act relevant as a study resource, but it does not endorse a publisher or particular edition.
APO eligibility and the degree deadline
The advertisement required a professional law degree or an integrated law degree from a university established by law in India. According to RPSC’s November 2024 clarification in the case record, candidates had to have acquired the required degree by the application deadline; candidates still in their final year were not eligible under the rules then applicable.

The issue reached the Supreme Court after candidates who obtained degrees after applying sought permission to sit the preliminary exam. The case record notes that a service-rule proviso allowing final-year candidates to apply had been deleted in 2002. In Rajasthan Public Service Commission, Ajmer v. Lavanshu Sankhla, the Court stated: “The legislative intent underlying such deletion is clear and unambiguous, namely, that candidates who have not acquired the requisite educational qualification as on the relevant date are not eligible to apply for the post in question.” This describes the qualification timing addressed in that case; it is not individual legal advice. The case record is available through the judgment search record.

An RPSC homepage item dated 2 January 2026 referred to mains-related activity for Prosecution Officer 2024. That indicates the process had reached a mains-related stage by that date; it does not confirm a final result, appointments, or the status of later notices. For a current status, check RPSC’s official website and current recruitment notices rather than relying on the dated item.
