What these box-office figures mean
Worldwide gross is the database-reported ticket revenue total. It is not a measure of profit: it does not subtract production, marketing, or distribution costs. Nor does it show ticket sales or audience preference. Because this is a nominal-gross ranking, films from different decades are not compared on an inflation-adjusted basis.

Why other rankings may show different numbers
Box-office databases can report different totals, and the metric matters. Box Office Mojo’s franchise page defaults to a domestic-gross column and lists re-releases separately; those figures should not be compared with The Numbers’ worldwide totals above. This list ranks each theatrical film once, rather than counting a re-release as another movie. For a cross-check, see Box Office Mojo’s Jurassic Park franchise page.
The original Jurassic Park opened in theaters nationwide on June 11, 1993, according to NBCUniversal’s 2023 anniversary article, which also described the film as earning more than $1 billion at the box office. Its listed total here reflects the database figure accessed in 2026, not a number attributed solely to its initial release. NBCUniversal’s anniversary article provides that historical context.
