The Numbers lists its opening-weekend gross at $82,505,391 from 4,071 theaters. At the time, that was described as the biggest opening of 2024 so far—not the eventual year-end leader.
How much did Dune: Part Two make opening weekend?
The Numbers’ March 1, 2024 domestic weekend chart records Dune: Part Two in first place with $82,505,391 across 4,071 theaters. That works out to an average of about $20,269 per theater. The Numbers’ weekend chart supplies the weekend gross and theater count.
Box Office Mojo lists the same $82,505,391 domestic opening and gives the film’s domestic total as $282,144,358. Its title page identifies March 1, 2024 as the domestic release date. These are U.S./Canada figures, not worldwide grosses. Box Office Mojo’s title page provides the opening and domestic total.
Why some reports give a different opening figure
On March 3, 2024, the Associated Press reported an $81.5 million domestic opening as the studio’s estimate. That contemporaneous estimate differs from the $82,505,391 later listed by Box Office Mojo and The Numbers. The figures describe the same domestic opening, but they have different reporting status; the AP also reported a $178.5 million worldwide debut. The Associated Press report gives the estimate and worldwide figure.

Keep the measures distinct: the weekend chart rank is a domestic ranking, $82,505,391 is the currently listed domestic opening gross, $81.5 million was the studio’s estimate reported at the time, and $178.5 million was the worldwide debut reported by AP.
What “biggest opening of 2024” meant
Screen Daily described the result as the highest opening weekend of 2024 so far. That was a year-to-date comparison in March 2024, not a claim that the film finished the full calendar year with the biggest opening. Screen Daily’s March 2024 coverage also reported approximately $18.5 million from IMAX, about 23% of the overall opening. Those IMAX figures are trade-reported figures, not an audited studio statement.

The scale of the opening
The domestic opening drew on 4,071 theaters, with an average of roughly $20,269 per theater based on The Numbers’ listed gross.
