Why did Thunderful Gothenburg change its name?
The studio said the name Stormteller Games grew out of a collaborative effort. These are the reasons the studio gave in its 12 February 2025 announcement.
What is Stormteller Games?
Stormteller Games is the new name announced for Thunderful Gothenburg, a game-development studio in Gothenburg, Sweden. The announcement described the studio as having emerged from the 2017 merger of Image & Form and Zoink! Games. At that time, it reported a team of 25 veteran developers and named Johan Petersson as studio head.
The announcement also attributed more than 25 years of development, management and leadership experience to Petersson, including prior work at EA on Need for Speed, FIFA, Madden and Battlefield. Those details describe the studio and its leadership as presented in February 2025; they do not establish current headcount or leadership.
