The claim that Tyson Fury could “lose half” of his Usyk-fight money refers to estimates of tax and National Insurance—not a deduction for losing the bout. No reviewed source confirms Fury’s personal purse, tax residence or final tax bill. The widely reported £150 million ($190 million) figure for the December 2024 rematch was the total purse for the event, not proof that Fury received $95 million.
What does the “lose half” claim mean?
It is a shorthand for modeled tax deductions on assumed earnings. The estimates were published in 2024 and rely on different assumed amounts; neither is an official assessment of Fury’s tax or a disclosed figure from his contract. They do not describe a penalty triggered by the fight result.
A separate reported stipulation concerned withdrawal from the rescheduled May 2024 bout: promoter Turki Alalshikh said either fighter would forfeit $10 million from his purse if he withdrew from that date. That was a withdrawal consequence, not a loss-related deduction. MMA Fighting reported the announcement.
What were the reported tax estimates?

These scenarios should not be combined: they use different assumed earnings and reporting, and neither source provides the private contract or tax information needed to calculate Fury’s take-home amount.

Was Fury’s share really $95 million?
Not on the evidence available here. BBC Sport described the December 2024 rematch purse as a reported total of about £150 million ($190 million). That is an event-level figure, not confirmation that Fury personally received half. A purse is the amount paid to the boxers, and the split is agreed before the result; it is not the same as a fighter’s net income after taxes and other costs. Fury and Usyk fought twice in 2024. Usyk won the first bout by split decision on 18 May. The rematch took place on 21 December, and contemporary reporting said Usyk won again. BBC Sport reported the first fight’s result; Kuwait Times reported the rematch result. The reported total rematch purse does not establish Fury’s individual share in either bout.

Would a UK fighter pay tax on money earned in Saudi Arabia?
The venue alone does not settle the tax question. HMRC’s general guidance says UK residents normally pay UK tax on income from abroad as well as UK income. Residence depends on statutory tests and personal circumstances; non-residents generally do not pay UK tax on foreign income. HMRC’s guidance on foreign income does not establish Fury’s residence or liability.
Tax rules also depend on the relevant tax year. HMRC says the remittance basis ended on 6 April 2025 and was replaced by a residence-based foreign-income-and-gains regime. That later change cannot by itself determine tax on 2024 earnings; the rules for the relevant year and the individual’s circumstances matter. What would be needed to know Fury’s actual take-home amount?
The public reports do not establish his personal purse or final liability. A reliable calculation would require details not disclosed in the cited sources, including his tax residence for the relevant year, contract terms, business arrangements, deductible expenses, reliefs and any foreign tax paid. It would also need to distinguish the gross amount paid to him from costs and deductions that affect what he keeps. Without those facts, an exact net figure—or a definitive claim that he lost half—cannot be verified.
