Sheffield Wednesday’s takeover is complete: Arise Capital Partners LLC bought the club in May 2026. The process began when the club and the company that owns Hillsborough entered administration on 24 October 2025. A consortium led by James Bord was named preferred bidder but withdrew in February 2026; David Storch’s Arise group ultimately completed the purchase.

Who bought Sheffield Wednesday?
Arise Capital Partners LLC bought the club. BTG’s completion announcement names David Storch, Michael Storch and Tom Costin as part of the acquiring group. BBC Sport identified David Storch as its leader. Storch said on behalf of Arise: “Today, this Club is reborn – and we look forward with determination to the work that lies ahead.” That statement expresses the consortium’s view; it is not an independent assessment of the club’s future.
What happened to the preferred bidder?
The Bord-led consortium was named preferred bidder in December 2025, but it withdrew on 25 February 2026. Its status as preferred bidder was a stage in the sale process, not a completed purchase. Storch’s group remained interested after the withdrawal and completed the transaction in May.

How the points deductions differ
The 12-, 18- and 15-point figures refer to different things and should not be treated as one deduction. The EFL said administration triggered an automatic 12-point deduction in October 2025. In December, it described 18 points as the combined total resulting from administration and separate disciplinary proceedings for the 2025/26 season. After exit from administration, the EFL decided not to impose a further 15-point deduction, according to BTG’s May 2026 announcement.

What the completed deal meant for the club
BBC Sport reported that the club agreed to two seasons of budget restrictions while retaining permission to sign new players. The available reporting does not specify the detailed terms of those restrictions, so the two-season duration should not be taken as a full description of the budgets or transfer rules.

Companies House lists a notice extending the administration period, filed on 30 August 2026. The filing-history summary establishes that the notice exists but does not explain its terms or reason. Because BTG separately confirmed that the club sale completed in May, the later filing alone is not evidence that the purchase remained incomplete.
