Among the airline-published specifications compared here, Qantas’s A380 premium-economy seat is widest at 22.8 inches, with a 38-inch pitch. That is a comparison of the reviewed figures—not a verified world record or a promise that a particular Qantas flight will use an A380. Qantas offers premium economy on selected routes including North America, but aircraft can change. Check the aircraft and seat map for your exact flight before booking.
How the published seat dimensions compare
Width and pitch describe different things: width is the published side-to-side seat measurement, while pitch is the distance between corresponding points on successive rows. A larger pitch can mean more space between rows, but it does not establish that a seat is wider.
| Airline and aircraft or route | Published width | Published pitch | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Qantas A380 | 22.8 inches | 38 inches | Qantas lists premium economy on selected routes including North America, but says aircraft may change and not all flights use the listed aircraft. Qantas seat maps. |
| ANA premium economy | 19.3 inches | 38 inches; 40 inches on a newer 206-seat B787-9 configuration | The reviewed ANA page does not give a separate width for the 206-seat configuration. Confirm your aircraft and cabin details. ANA premium economy. |
| Air New Zealand retrofitted B787-9, Tokyo–Auckland | Not stated on the reviewed page | 41 inches | The airline said the retrofit would serve Tokyo–Auckland from late May 2026. Its description also notes a fixed outer shell and winged headrest. Air New Zealand cabin announcement. |
| Singapore Airlines flights from Japan | Up to 20 inches | 38 inches | The destination page gives these figures; confirm the aircraft and configuration for your itinerary. Singapore Airlines flights to Japan. |
| Cathay Pacific | Not stated on the reviewed booking page | Not stated on the reviewed booking page | The page discusses booking and the progressive introduction of a B777-300ER cabin, but does not provide premium-economy dimensions. Cathay Pacific booking. |
These are airline-published specifications, not independently measured figures. They do not establish a complete comparison of every transpacific carrier or prove which seats are available on a particular date.
What the numbers mean for a booking
For the widest published seat
Qantas’s A380 has the largest published width in this comparison. Its 22.8-inch figure is wider than the other stated widths here, but applies to that aircraft’s premium-economy seat—not to every Qantas transpacific service.

- CloudAir Support: This airplane seat cushion is equipped with 49 pressure reducing airbags that can evenly distribute weight, effectively reducing pressure on the coccyx and buttocks and relieving fatigue caused by prolonged sitting(✅ Correct: Inflate to 50–60% capacity; the air chamber should be full but yield noticeably when pressed by hand. On an airplane, 30–40% inflation is recommended.❌ Incorrect: Do not over-inflate until rigid; sitting on an over-inflated cushion will be uncomfortable and negate the pressure-relieving effect.)
- Built in Inflation Pump Design: Compared with other inflatable seat cushions, it does not rely on an external inflation pump and is very convenient to use. Simply press the surface inflation button repeatedly(Tip for easier inflation: Start by blowing one breath of air in, then use the manual pump to adjust the inflation level.)
- Adjustable Comfort: After inflation is complete, you can press the surface adjustment button to slowly release the gas inside the cushion to change its support. You can adjust to the best comfort according to your actual feelings(✅When storing, be sure to open the exhaust valve to release all the air.)
- Portable and Widely Used: When storing, first exhaust the air inside the cushion, then fold the cushion and put it into a storage bag. It is very portable and is an ideal companion for long-distance flights, travel, office work, driving, camping and other scenarios
- Practical Three-layer Structure Design: The smooth surface of the fabric is skin friendly and breathable. The high elasticity and durable TPU layer in the middle can withstand a weight of up to 440 pounds. Paired with a reliable non-slip bottom, it firmly grips chair surfaces and can remain stable even when it bumps or moves suddenly
For more row spacing
Air New Zealand’s 41-inch pitch on the retrofitted B787-9 serving Tokyo–Auckland is the largest published pitch in this comparison. ANA’s newer 206-seat B787-9 configuration is listed at 40 inches. Neither pitch figure establishes seat width, and the Tokyo–Auckland route is not itself a transpacific flight.
For a specific route
Route, aircraft assignment, cabin configuration, width, pitch, and recline design are separate considerations. The reviewed Singapore Airlines figures are presented for flights from Japan, while the Air New Zealand retrofit is described for Tokyo–Auckland. Check whether the stated route and cabin actually match the itinerary you intend to book.

How to check before you pay
- Search the airline’s booking page for the exact dates and origin–destination pair. Confirm that premium economy is offered on the flight, rather than assuming it is available across the carrier’s whole route network.
- Open the airline’s seat map or aircraft information for the selected flight. Match the aircraft and, where the carrier distinguishes them, the cabin configuration to the specification you are comparing.
- Compare width and pitch separately, and review the seat’s recline design and layout if that information is available. Do not use a high pitch figure as a substitute for a width measurement.
- Recheck the aircraft assignment close to departure. Qantas explicitly warns that last-minute aircraft changes occur; a seat specification associated with one aircraft may not match a replacement aircraft.
What this comparison can—and cannot—establish
The Qantas A380 is the widest option among the reviewed airline-published widths. This is not an independently verified global ranking: the reviewed pages do not cover every airline or establish a complete market-wide comparison. They also do not establish date-specific inventory, fares, or the aircraft that will operate a particular booking. Treat each dimension as useful screening information, then verify the precise flight and configuration with the airline.
