The inventory included Boeing 737, 757, 767, 777 and 787 aircraft and Airbus A319, A320 and A321neo aircraft. Those figures describe United’s mainline fleet—not all aircraft flying under the United Express brand.
What aircraft does United Airlines have in its fleet?
United’s year-end mainline fleet combined narrowbody aircraft used across many domestic and short-haul routes with larger widebodies used on higher-capacity and long-haul services. The 737 family was the largest by count: 572 aircraft across six listed variants, calculated from the subtype counts in United’s 2025 Form 10-K. Airbus supplied the A319, A320 and A321neo subfleets; Boeing supplied the 757, 767, 777 and 787 series.
The table below reproduces United’s reported mainline inventory at December 31, 2025. “Owned” and “leased” are the filing’s ownership columns. Seat figures are standard configurations reported by United, and average age is in years.

How many planes does United have, including regional aircraft?
The 1,066 figure is United’s mainline inventory. Separately, the company reported 424 regional aircraft operating under capacity purchase agreements as of December 31, 2025. These aircraft are flown by regional carriers; some are owned by United and leased to those carriers, while others are leased directly from regional operators. The 424 should not be described as aircraft all owned by United or simply added to the mainline total without explaining the different operating and ownership basis.

United also disclosed 29 owned ERJ145XRs that were temporarily grounded and two CRJ700s awaiting conversion to CRJ550s. It listed Republic Airways as operating 66 regional aircraft and Mesa Airlines as operating 60 under separate United agreements; those are examples within the regional arrangement, not a complete accounting of its partners. How old is United’s fleet?
United reported a 15.3-year average age for the 1,066-aircraft mainline fleet. That mean combines aircraft of very different generations: the A321neo averaged 0.9 years and the 737 MAX 8 averaged 2.4 years, while the 777-200 averaged 28.5 years and the 767-300ER averaged 29.8 years. The fleetwide average is not the age of a typical aircraft on every route, nor does it tell a passenger which aircraft will operate a particular departure.

How many seats are on a United plane?
There is no single seat count for a United aircraft: capacity varies by aircraft type and, for some types, by configuration. United’s standard-seat listing for the 777-200ER ranges from 276 to 362 seats; its 767-300ER ranges from 167 to 203. The standard figures in the table are useful for comparing reported capacity, but they do not show seat pitch, cabin-class mix or the seat map for a specific flight. Check the seat map for the particular itinerary and aircraft assignment; a model name alone does not guarantee one cabin layout.
What changed in United’s fleet during 2025?
United said it added 82 aircraft during 2025 and updated 119 aircraft to its Signature Interior. The company reported that 68% of its narrowbody fleet had that interior by year-end. These are company-reported full-year figures, not a claim that every aircraft had been updated. See United’s full-year 2025 results release.

In January 2025, United announced that its active mainline fleet had reached 1,001 aircraft after an A321neo delivery, with a MAX 8 delivery anticipated next. That was a dated milestone, not the year-end count. The difference between 1,001 and 1,066 does not by itself establish 65 net deliveries, because fleet totals can also change through retirements and other movements. The company’s January 2025 fleet-milestone article describes that point-in-time announcement.

Contractual commitments and estimated delivery timing are separate matters. United says its expected delivery estimates incorporate manufacturer updates or United’s own estimates, and cautions in the 2025 Form 10-K that it “cannot guarantee delivery of any particular aircraft at any specific time notwithstanding firm purchase commitments.” Treat the order book as a plan that can change, not a schedule of guaranteed additions.
United also announced United Elevated for the 787-9, including Polaris Studio suites, with availability expected in 2026. That announcement concerned a future product at the time of the full-year 2025 report; it does not mean all 787-9s, or all aircraft in the 2025 fleet, had that cabin. United described the plan in its results release.
