The company’s own history ties its early foundations to the Bandeirante and Brasília aircraft programs; today, it reports deliveries to customers around the world and a substantial order backlog.
What is Embraer known for?
Embraer is a Brazilian aerospace company that develops and supports aircraft for commercial aviation, executive aviation, and defense and security. It also identifies services and support as a major business. Its range extends from regional passenger jets and business jets to military aircraft and specialized aviation systems.
Embraer’s company profile says it has delivered more than 9,000 aircraft to more than 100 countries. That is the company’s current corporate statement, not an independently audited measure of its historical influence. Embraer’s company profile also describes its strategy as focused on profitable growth, efficiency, and innovation—corporate positioning rather than an independent assessment.
How did Embraer start?
Embraer says it was founded in 1969 as the outcome of an educational project. That origin links aircraft manufacturing to Brazil’s investment in technical education and its ambition to develop a domestic aerospace industry. The account is Embraer’s own; the available company history does not provide enough detail to reconstruct the project’s institutional beginnings or assess them independently.

The Bandeirante and Brasília
Embraer’s annual report identifies the EMB-110 Bandeirante and EMB-120 Brasília as foundational programs. They are useful milestones in the company’s early development: aircraft design and production became the basis for a business that would eventually serve civilian as well as government and military customers. This is a broad historical arc, rather than a full chronology of each aircraft’s development or entry into service.
From government-controlled production to a public company
In its filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Embraer describes an evolution from a government-controlled manufacturer focused on aircraft for Brazil’s Armed Forces to a publicly held company serving commercial airlines, executive aviation, and defense and security customers. The filing supports that overall transition, but it does not establish the specific dates of each step in the account presented here.

Which aircraft mark Embraer’s expanding role?
Embraer’s aircraft programs show how the company’s work widened beyond its early foundations. The names below are milestones identified in the company’s annual report, not a complete model history or a guide to which older aircraft remain in production.
| Aircraft or program | Role in Embraer’s story |
|---|---|
| EMB-110 Bandeirante | One of the foundational programs named in Embraer’s account of its origins. |
| EMB-120 Brasília | Another foundational program identified by the company. |
| EMB-312 Tucano and AMX | Later programs reflecting the company’s continuing defense and military aviation work. |
| A-29 Super Tucano and KC-390 Millennium | Later defense programs named in the annual report; the KC-390 is also marketed as the C-390 Millennium. |
Embraer’s Defense & Security air portfolio also lists the C-390 Millennium, A-29 Super Tucano, P600 AEW&C, special-mission aircraft, aircraft modernization, and air-traffic-management offerings. The company presents these as part of a broader defense and security business, rather than as a single aircraft line.

Is Embraer Brazilian?
Yes. Embraer was founded in Brazil and describes its origins as part of a Brazilian educational and industrial project. Its later evolution into a publicly held manufacturer with an international customer base did not change that origin. Embraer’s account connects its history to Brazil while describing a business that now serves customers across several aviation markets.
What does Embraer make today?
Embraer groups its business into four broad areas: commercial aviation, executive jets, defense and security, and services and support. Those categories distinguish its regional passenger aircraft and E-Jets from business jets and military aircraft. The company’s public portfolio supports this overview, but the sources cited here do not establish the current production status or detailed specifications of every model in its history.

How large is Embraer’s business now?
Embraer’s Form 20-F for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2025, reports 294 aircraft deliveries during 2025 across its listed segments. It also reports a firm-order backlog of US$31.6423 billion as of December 31, 2025. These are company-reported operating figures: deliveries count aircraft handed over during that year, while backlog represents firm orders at a specified date. Neither figure alone measures the company’s historical significance.
Older company figures should not be mistaken for current ones. Embraer’s 2024 annual report said more than 145 million passengers were transported annually, while its current company profile says more than 150 million. These are claims from different publications and should not be treated as a precise year-by-year series.

Sources and historical limits
The historical account here is based principally on Embraer’s company profile and its SEC-filed annual report. The profile is corporate material, and the filing, though regulated, is still the company’s account of its history. The available sources support the broad path from educational project and early aircraft programs to a diversified, publicly held manufacturer; they do not establish exact dates for privatization, first flights, certifications, or individual commercial-program launches.
