Four firming body lotions in a September 2025 Shape roundup were listed below $25: NatureWell Retinol Cream, Medix 5.5 Retinol Body Lotion, Advanced Clinicals Retinol Advanced Firming Cream, and Elastalift Collagen Firming Body Lotion. Those are historical prices, not verified current offers. More importantly, a lotion may moisturize and temporarily make aging or crepey skin look smoother, but it cannot lift sagging skin.

What firming body lotion can—and cannot—do

Moisturizer can temporarily plump the skin’s surface, making fine lines look less noticeable. Retinol may produce a small change in appearance over time, but the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) cautions that results from skin-firming creams are subtle at best and may not appear. As the AAD puts it, “As for the claim that a cream or lotion can lift sagging skin, dermatologists say that’s not possible.” Creams and lotions do not penetrate deeply enough to lift skin. Read the AAD’s guidance on skin-firming creams.

That distinction matters when deciding whether a product is worth the cost. A moisturizer may help with dryness and the temporary look of fine lines; it is not a nonsurgical substitute for a lift. The word “firming” on a label or in a product name is not proof of a measured lifting effect.

Four lotions and their 2025 listed prices

Shape’s roundup, published September 5, 2025, listed the following products and prices. These are dated figures; the cited article does not establish current prices, package sizes, or whether the listed offers remain available.

See Shape’s original roundup. Its product descriptions are not independent clinical evidence, and the available information does not support a head-to-head efficacy ranking. Check the retailer listing for the exact product, package size, current price, and any coupon before buying; without package sizes, the historical prices cannot be compared per ounce.

How to choose among the four

NatureWell Retinol Cream

Shape named this its editor’s pick and described it as containing encapsulated retinol and as gentle enough for all skin types. That is Shape’s characterization, not independent evidence that the cream will firm skin or suit every individual. The roundup’s listed price was $14 with a coupon, versus $19 previously.

Medix 5.5 Retinol Body Lotion

This is the retinol option whose Shape description also mentions vitamin E, green tea, and shea butter. The article listed it at $16, previously $20. It did not state a retinol concentration or provide comparative trial results, so those ingredients alone do not establish how well it will work for a particular person.

Advanced Clinicals Retinol Advanced Firming Cream

Shape presented this retinol cream as a budget option, listing it at $13, previously $18. The price and “firming” name do not show that it produces a measurable lift; the cited material does not provide product-specific clinical evidence.

Retinol precautions before you apply it

Retinoids can irritate skin and increase sensitivity to sunlight. The AAD recommends starting gradually with the least-intense formula, building use as tolerated, and using sun protection during the day. It also advises against retinoid use during pregnancy. Follow the product’s own directions, and stop or seek professional guidance if irritation is significant. Review the AAD’s retinoid and retinol guidance.

Do not assume that “retinol” tells you how strong a lotion is: the AAD notes that over-the-counter labels are not required to disclose the retinol percentage. The cited Shape descriptions do not give concentrations for these products. If you have sensitive skin or are unsure whether a retinoid is appropriate for you, ask a dermatologist before adding one to your routine.

A sensible way to shop on a budget

  • Set the goal: Choose a body moisturizer for dryness or the temporary appearance of fine lines, not because you expect it to lift sagging skin.
  • Compare today’s listings: Verify that the listing matches the named product, then check the current price, package size, ingredients, directions, and return policy. The 2025 figures above are not live prices.
  • Account for tolerance: If considering a retinol product, factor in gradual use, possible irritation, daytime sun protection, and the pregnancy precaution.
  • Don’t overread the label: “Firming” and collagen positioning do not establish a clinical result, and the information cited here does not provide comparable product trials.
