The original Nintendo Switch family’s US price increase took effect on August 3, 2025; it is not an upcoming change. Nintendo currently lists the standard Switch at $339.99, the OLED model at $399.99 and Switch Lite at $229.99. A separate increase to $499.99 took effect for Switch 2 on September 1, 2026.

When did the original Switch get more expensive?

Nintendo announced on August 1, 2025 that US prices for the original Nintendo Switch family and related products would change based on market conditions, effective August 3, 2025. Nintendo’s announcement summary establishes the date and scope; it does not provide a verified item-by-item price table here. Nintendo’s August 2025 announcement

Tom’s Hardware reported the old and revised prices for the three console models as follows. These are historical comparisons reported by that outlet, not a price table independently attributed to Nintendo’s announcement. Tom’s Hardware’s 2025 report

Original Switch model Previously reported US price Revised US price
Standard Nintendo Switch $299.99 $339.99
Nintendo Switch OLED $349.99 $399.99
Nintendo Switch Lite $199.99 $229.99

What does Nintendo list the original Switch at now?

Nintendo’s US family product page currently lists regular prices of $339.99 for the standard Switch, $399.99 for the OLED model and $229.99 for Switch Lite. Those are Nintendo-listed prices, not a guarantee that every retailer charges the same amount. Check the retailer’s current listing, stock and condition—new, refurbished or used—before buying. Nintendo Switch 2 System
  • The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
  • One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
  • Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
  • Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
  • GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play

Is the Switch 2 price increase the same change?

No. Nintendo’s later US price revision applied to Switch 2, not the original Switch. In a May 7, 2026 notice, Nintendo said Switch 2’s US MSRP would rise from $449.99 to $499.99 beginning September 1, 2026, and stated that original Nintendo Switch pricing was not changing in that revision. That distinction matters when comparing headlines or listings: the original family’s increase took effect in 2025, while the September 2026 change concerned the newer console.

What should buyers compare?

  • Console generation: Make sure a listing is for the original Switch, Switch OLED, Switch Lite or Switch 2; their prices and hardware differ.
  • Price type: Nintendo’s listed regular price is not necessarily the retailer’s current offer.
  • Condition and stock: Compare new, refurbished and used listings separately, and verify availability before deciding.
  • What you need: Choose based on the hardware and game library you want, not on the assumption that the 2025 original-Switch increase is still pending.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
