Atlanta is Delta Air Lines’ largest hub by a wide margin, with 47.7 million annual departing seats in the year ending December 2024. That figure measures scheduled capacity—not passengers carried. The available comparable ranking covers Delta’s nine U.S. hubs and reports seats, while public passenger-boardings data is reported for entire airports across all airlines.
Delta’s hubs ranked by annual departing seats
The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC), using DiioMi by Cirium data and analysis by Ailevon Pacific Aviation Consulting, ranked Delta’s U.S. hubs by departing-seat capacity for the year ending December 2024. The figures below are rounded annual seat totals, not counts of travelers.
| Rank | Delta hub | Annual departing seats | Year-over-year seat-capacity change |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Atlanta (ATL) | 47.7 million | +5.0% |
| 2 | Minneapolis–St. Paul (MSP) | 15.2 million | +4.8% |
| 3 | Detroit (DTW) | 14.1 million | +4.6% |
| 4 | New York–JFK (JFK) | 11.3 million | +2.6% |
| 5 | Salt Lake City (SLC) | 11.3 million | +3.8% |
| 6 | New York–LaGuardia (LGA) | 8.5 million | +3.7% |
| 7 | Los Angeles (LAX) | 8.3 million | +0.8% |
| 8 | Seattle (SEA) | 7.5 million | +1.9% |
| 9 | Boston (BOS) | 6.6 million | +4.1% |
JFK and SLC both round to 11.3 million seats in the presentation; the source ranks JFK fourth and SLC fifth. Atlanta’s capacity is more than three times MSP’s, the second-ranked hub. See the MAC capacity presentation.
Which airports does Delta count as hubs?
Delta’s 2024 Form 10-K, filed in February 2025, describes four core domestic hubs: Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis–St. Paul, and Salt Lake City. It identifies five coastal hubs: Boston, Los Angeles, New York–LaGuardia, New York–JFK, and Seattle. Together, those are the nine U.S. hubs in the capacity ranking. Delta’s 2024 Form 10-K defines the network grouping.

Why this is not a passenger ranking
Departing seats describe available capacity over a period; they do not say how many seats were occupied or how many Delta passengers traveled through each hub. The MAC presentation ranks capacity for the year ending December 2024, not a calendar-year passenger total or a current schedule snapshot.
The FAA’s calendar-year 2024 enplanement table counts passenger boardings at each airport across all airlines. It reports 52,511,402 enplanements at ATL, 37,760,834 at LAX, 31,466,102 at JFK, 25,414,592 at SEA, 21,090,721 at BOS, 18,054,481 at MSP, 16,715,567 at LGA, 16,110,696 at DTW, and 13,543,570 at SLC. Those airport-wide totals cannot be attributed to Delta, and their order differs from the Delta seat-capacity ranking. The FAA table is dated September 15, 2025; its public data page also lists CY2025 airport data, but those figures remain airport-level rather than Delta-specific. Atlanta’s 108.1 million figure measures a different thing
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport reported 108.1 million total passengers for calendar 2024, counting airport-wide arriving and departing traffic across airlines. That is not Delta’s passenger count and is not directly comparable with the FAA’s enplanement figure, which counts boardings. Atlanta airport’s 2024 performance release also reports 796,224 aircraft operations for the year.

The answer depends on the measure. For the latest directly comparable hub ranking in the cited data, Atlanta leads by annual departing seats. For passenger boardings, FAA figures compare all airlines at each airport; they do not isolate Delta. Delta’s network page calls Atlanta its largest hub and describes more than 900 peak-day departures there, but that is a schedule snapshot, not an annual passenger total. Delta’s network page provides that peak-day description.
