It depends on what “biggest” means. By Airbus’s 2025 firm-order table, Vietjet was the top listed customer with 100 aircraft. By the size of the A320-family fleet in a November 2025 comparison, American Airlines led with 475 aircraft. Those are different measures: neither establishes which airline has ordered the most Airbus aircraft over time or operates the most across every Airbus family.
Who ordered the most Airbus aircraft in 2025?
Vietjet was the largest customer in Airbus’s published 2025 firm-order table, with 100 aircraft. The table covers customers with at least 50 orders and excludes options; it is an annual snapshot, not a lifetime ranking. It also includes leasing companies, so it is not an airline-only list.

These figures are firm orders listed by Airbus for 2025, with options excluded; Airbus’s table is thresholded at 50 units. They do not show how many aircraft a customer already operates, how many it has received over its history, or how many it owns rather than leases. Airbus’s FY2025 Board of Directors report is the source for this order table.
Which airline has the largest A320-family fleet?
In a November 2025 comparison of aircraft operated, American Airlines ranked first among the listed operators with 475 A320-family aircraft. China Eastern, China Southern, IndiGo, and Delta followed. The comparison includes the A319, A320, and A321 families; it is not a ranking of every Airbus aircraft type.

The figures are from a November 2025 Kuwait Times report of Reuters and describe aircraft operated, not firm orders. They support calling American the leader in this cited A320-family comparison—not Airbus’s biggest customer by every measure. Kuwait Times’ November 2025 report provides the comparison.
Why there is no single all-time “biggest Airbus customer” in these figures
Orders, deliveries, and operating fleets answer different questions. An airline can place a large order for aircraft that will arrive later; a lessor can order aircraft that are subsequently leased to operators; and a fleet count reflects aircraft in service at a particular time. A ranking also needs a consistent scope: one year or the whole company history, airlines only or all customers, and one aircraft family or all Airbus families.

Airbus reported 793 commercial aircraft delivered to 91 customers in 2025 and 1,000 gross orders from 57 customers. Those are manufacturer-wide annual totals, not airline-by-airline rankings. At 31 December 2025, Airbus reported 455 customers, 25,510 cumulative orders, 16,756 cumulative deliveries, and a backlog of 8,754 aircraft. These company-wide aggregates do not identify which airline has the largest lifetime order total or the largest current fleet across all Airbus families. Annual order rankings depend on their cutoff date. After 2025, Airbus announced that AirAsia had placed a firm order for 150 A220-300 aircraft on 6 May 2026. That is a later order announcement, not a count of aircraft already in AirAsia’s fleet. Separately, IndiGo confirmed 30 additional A350-900s in October 2025; that order should not be confused with its A320-family operating-fleet figure. Airbus’s releases document the AirAsia order and IndiGo order.
