Re:

Which Fintech Could Go Public Next? Airtel Money Is One to Watch

Airtel Money is a notable fintech IPO candidate after reports of a planned London float, but preparation signals and media reports are not confirmed listings.

Airtel Money may be the less-expected fintech IPO candidate to watch: Axios reported on September 23, 2026, citing the Wall Street Journal, that it planned a London float. But that is reported intent, not confirmation of a completed offering or a set listing date. No available evidence establishes which fintech will go public next.

The key distinction is between signs of preparation and a confirmed transaction. Hiring a finance chief or advisers can suggest readiness; a filing, roadshow and completed listing are later, materially different stages.

Why Airtel Money is a candidate to watch

Axios reported on September 23, 2026, citing the Wall Street Journal, that Airtel Money planned to float at least $800 million of existing shares on the London Stock Exchange at a reported valuation of $8 billion to $9 billion. Those figures describe the reported plan, not final offering terms. The report is not direct company confirmation, and the information available here does not establish an issuer filing, a confirmed listing date, final deal size or whether the float was completed. IPO plans can change or be delayed. Axios report

The reported sale of existing shares matters: such a transaction primarily lets current shareholders sell, rather than necessarily raising new capital for the company. The available reporting does not establish Airtel Money’s final deal structure.

What the fintech IPO pipeline does—and does not—show

F-Prime Capital’s 2026 State of Fintech Report says, “As of year end 2025, there are signals that more fintech IPOs are on the way.” Its chart groups Stripe, Revolut and Gusto as companies that had hired a CFO, and Ramp, Plaid, Deel and ClearBank as companies that had hired investment banks and lawyers. These are readiness signals, not confirmed commitments to list or announcements of IPO dates. The report’s supporting data were pulled as of December 31, 2025, so its chart is a year-end snapshot rather than a live pipeline. F-Prime Capital report

A readiness hire can precede a public offering by an uncertain amount of time—or may never lead to one. To assess a candidate, look for an issuer announcement or regulatory filing, the stage of the process, the intended exchange, and whether the proposed shares are new shares, existing shares, or both.

Chime and Klarna are not upcoming IPOs

Chime announced a Form S-1 filing in May 2025 and an IPO roadshow in June 2025. Its investor-relations page lists Q2 2026 results, so it should not be described as a future IPO candidate. Chime filing announcement · Chime investor relations

Klarna announced the launch of its IPO in September 2025, and SEC records show subsequent Form 6-K reporting in 2026. It, too, has already moved through an IPO process and should not be framed as an upcoming listing. Klarna IPO announcement · Klarna SEC filing index

What recent fintech IPO performance says about the risk

IPO activity is not a reliable signal of strong returns. F-Prime Capital counted 11 VC-backed fintech companies that went public in 2025. At year-end 2025, only 2 of the 11 traded above their IPO price, while 6 traded above their last private valuation. These are different reference points: a stock can be below its IPO price yet above a prior private valuation. The figures are F-Prime’s historical snapshot using data through December 31, 2025—not a forecast or a complete measure of IPO quality. F-Prime Capital report

How to verify whether an IPO is actually near

  1. Check the issuer first. Look for a company announcement or investor-relations update that confirms an offering, rather than treating media reports as company confirmation.
  2. Check regulatory filings. A filing is stronger evidence of a process than hiring activity, but it does not by itself guarantee a completed offering. Distinguish confidential preparation from a publicly available filing.
  3. Identify the stage. A public filing, roadshow and completed listing are not interchangeable. Confirm the latest stage before calling an IPO “upcoming.”
  4. Read the deal structure. Determine whether shares are newly issued to raise capital for the company, existing shares sold by holders, or a mix. The size of an offering alone does not answer that question.
  5. Confirm the market and date. Check the intended exchange and any announced timetable; plans and schedules may change.
