United Airlines holds initial flight attendant training at its training facility in Houston, Texas. The program lasts six and a half weeks and includes safety and service instruction, emergency-procedure and CPR evaluations, training flights, and inflight evaluations. It takes place after selection and required pre-employment checks—not during the earlier Houston interview.
Where United flight attendant training happens
United’s initial flight attendant training is onsite at its training facility in Houston, Texas. The in-person interview experience is also in Houston, but it is an earlier hiring stage. Candidates who receive a conditional training offer attend training only after completing the required checks and receiving a training date. See United’s Path to Inflight.
How long training lasts
United currently lists the initial program as six and a half weeks. That is the duration published on its Flight Attendant Information page; it should not be treated as a guarantee that every class follows an identical calendar.
What trainees do during the program
United describes classroom and practical preparation, along with evaluations. Its examples include:

United says applicants do not need to know how to swim. During training, however, they must be able to maneuver in a pool while wearing a life jacket; the activity is monitored by qualified lifeguards. This is not described as a general swimming test.

What happens before trainees arrive in Houston
United’s hiring roadmap describes an application and assessment, an optional recruiter Q&A, a prerecorded interview, a live virtual interview, and an in-person interview experience in Houston. Candidates who succeed receive a conditional training offer. That offer depends on pre-employment DOT background checks, drug screening, fingerprinting, and vision and hearing tests. Once the required paperwork and checks are confirmed, United provides a training date.
Applicants to language-qualified postings may also need to pass a language assessment. The hiring steps and requirements can vary with the posting, so use the current listing and United’s hiring roadmap for the role you are pursuing.

What United currently says it provides during training
United’s current flight attendant information page lists hotel accommodation for the duration of training, with trainees paired with a roommate; two meals per day; and a $140 weekly training stipend. It also lists a $1,000 cash bonus after successful completion. These are the terms United publishes on that page, which does not state a publication date; confirm the details in your offer or the live posting.
What happens after graduation
United says trainees become employees after graduating from initial training. Its hiring roadmap describes a week off after training, followed by travel to the assigned base, a one-week hotel stay to help new hires settle in, and a one-day base orientation. United also says base assignments are made during the first week of training and depend on company needs, so they can differ by class.

How to prepare for the interviews
United recommends structuring interview responses around situation, task, action, and result. For practice, prepare concise examples that show how you handled a customer-service problem, worked with a team, used judgment, or managed a difficult interaction. Those are useful practice themes, not a published list of United interview questions. Follow United’s guidance on the Path to Inflight page.
