ThinkGeek’s standalone online store was scheduled to move to GameStop on July 2, 2019. GameStop planned to replace it with a ThinkGeek section offering a curated selection of items historically sold by ThinkGeek—not a transfer of the full former catalog. The announcement concerned the online store; contemporaneous coverage said 40 standalone U.S. ThinkGeek stores would remain open at the time.
What happened to ThinkGeek.com?
On June 14, 2019, TechCrunch reported that ThinkGeek.com would move into its parent company’s online platform. The ThinkGeek FAQ, as quoted by TechCrunch, said: “On July 2nd, 2019, ThinkGeek.com will be moving in with our parent company GameStop. After this move, you will be able to shop a curated selection of unique items historically found on ThinkGeek.com via a ThinkGeek section at GameStop”. TechCrunch’s June 14, 2019 report documented the planned change.
GameSpot’s June 28, 2019 coverage likewise said the curated collection would be available in a ThinkGeek section at GameStop beginning July 2. The distinction matters: the announcement described a new shopping destination and a selected assortment, not a promise that every item from ThinkGeek.com would carry over. GameSpot’s June 28, 2019 report described the transition and the closeout sale.
What changed—and what did not?
| Before the announced transition | After the announced transition |

GameSpot’s examples of the former merchandise included collectibles, apparel, home goods, and novelty items. Those categories describe historical offerings; they do not establish what is available now.

Why was ThinkGeek part of GameStop?
GameStop’s public descriptions placed ThinkGeek within its collectibles and consumer-products business. In June 2018, the company described ThinkGeek as a retail brand serving pop-culture enthusiasts in its collectibles business. In January 2019, it characterized ThinkGeek as a retailer of exclusive and unique video-game and pop-culture products. These statements provide context for the relationship, but they do not explain why GameStop chose to consolidate the standalone website.
For context, GameStop’s January 2019 corporate release said the company operated more than 5,800 stores across 14 countries at that time. That historical company-wide figure does not describe ThinkGeek’s store count or establish the effect of the website transition. GameStop’s June 20, 2018 announcement described ThinkGeek’s role in collectibles; its January 29, 2019 corporate release described the company’s consumer-product network.

Does the 2019 announcement tell us what is available today?
No. The contemporaneous reports establish the planned 2019 move and the curated nature of the collection, but they do not establish whether former ThinkGeek products remain available now or the present status of each physical location. The announcement also provides no basis for conclusions about customer migration, sales, or the financial impact of the change.
