The ThinkGeek shutdown sale was a 2019 event, not a current offer. GameSpot reported on June 28, 2019, that the standalone store’s sitewide sale had reached 75% off everything. ThinkGeek.com was scheduled to close as its online merchandise moved to a ThinkGeek section on GameStop.com starting July 2.

What happened to ThinkGeek?

In June 2019, GameStop announced that ThinkGeek’s standalone online store would close and its merchandise would be incorporated into a section of GameStop.com. GameSpot reported the July 2 transition date; GameDeveloper described it as an online-store consolidation rather than the end of the ThinkGeek brand.

The move did not guarantee that every item from the old store would be carried over. Contemporaneous coverage described the GameStop section as curated and noted uncertainty about how much of ThinkGeek’s former assortment would remain available. ThinkGeek sold collectibles and other pop-culture merchandise.

How much was the ThinkGeek closing sale?

GameSpot’s June 28, 2019 update reported that the sitewide sale had reached 75% off everything. That was the reported discount at that point in the sale, not a standing discount or an offer available today. The original promotion is over.

Did ThinkGeek’s physical stores close too?

Not as part of the plan described in 2019 coverage. GameDeveloper reported that ThinkGeek’s FAQ said the brand was not being shuttered and that its 40 physical locations would remain open at the time. That was a statement about the plan in 2019, not a current store count or confirmation of present-day locations.

GameStop CEO George Sherman said at the time, “We have very successful collectibles business and need to harness the power of the team and the investment made in that team going forward.” The comment reflected GameStop’s rationale for consolidating the online operation.

Can you still buy ThinkGeek merchandise?

GameStop’s current deals page lists clearance and collectibles categories, but those categories do not establish that any particular ThinkGeek item is in stock. Check the exact product listing and seller before buying. Collectors may also encounter ThinkGeek items through resale listings; verify the item’s identity, condition, total delivered price, and return terms before paying.

What happened to ThinkGeek gift cards?

TechCrunch reported in June 2019 that ThinkGeek gift cards would be honored at GameStop. That is historical information and does not establish today’s redemption policy. Check directly with GameStop before relying on an old ThinkGeek gift card.
