A reasonable estimate for the average weekly wage across Salary Sport’s 73-player Swansea City 2023/24 listing is about £4,011. That is a calculation from the site’s estimated weekly wage bill of £292,780 divided by 73—not an official club figure or a verified average of player contracts. Salary Sport’s separately stated average of £10,490 applies only to 20 players aged 22 or older for whom it lists a wage.
How the estimated £4,011 weekly average is calculated
Salary Sport’s 2023/24 Championship archive lists a weekly wage bill of £292,780 for a 73-player squad and says it holds wage estimates for all 73 players. Dividing the estimated bill by the listed squad size gives £4,010.68, or approximately £4,011 per player per week. This is an arithmetic estimate derived from Salary Sport’s figures; it is not an average the site publishes as its own full-squad figure, and it is not based on disclosed contracts. Salary Sport’s Swansea City 2023/24 wage archive.
Why Salary Sport also gives an average of £10,490
The £10,490 figure uses a different denominator. Salary Sport reports it as the average for 20 players aged 22 or older for whom it holds a wage estimate—not for all 73 players in the listing. The two figures therefore describe different groups and should not be treated as competing measurements of the same squad average. Salary Sport’s archive.
Why the average does not represent a typical player’s wage
The estimates are unevenly distributed. Salary Sport lists Bashir Humphreys as the highest earner at £33,000 per week and attributes 38% of its estimated wage bill to the five highest earners. A small number of high estimates can pull an arithmetic average above what many members of the squad are estimated to earn. These are Salary Sport estimates, not club-confirmed salary figures. What Swansea City’s financial statements can—and cannot—show
The club’s financial announcements provide company-level context, not a player-by-player wage breakdown. Swansea City’s 2025 announcement covered the eleven-month period ended 30 June 2024 and reported £21.5 million in turnover, a £15.2 million pre-tax loss and £6.0 million in acquisition costs for player registrations. Acquisition costs are not salaries, and the accounting period is not the same as the 2023/24 football season. Swansea City’s announcement of its 2024 financial statements.
The club’s preceding announcement covered the year ending 31 July 2023, before the 2023/24 season, and reported £21.5 million in turnover and a £17.9 million pre-tax loss. The club also cautioned that headline regulatory expenditure in those accounts was not the same as the Profitability and Sustainability calculation, which included academy and women’s-team costs.
