Samsung’s U.S. trade-in program can reduce the checkout cost of a qualifying new Samsung product, but the displayed credit is conditional: your old device must meet the selected offer’s rules and reach Samsung within the stated shipping window. Check the offer for your exact device and condition before ordering, then follow the account-removal, reset, and shipping instructions carefully.
How Samsung trade-ins work in the U.S.
Choose a qualifying new Samsung product and enter the make, model, and condition of the device you plan to trade in. Samsung shows an estimated offer in the purchase flow and applies the credit at checkout under the selected program. Eligible devices and values can change, so the offer shown for your purchase—not a general estimate—is the one to review. After receiving your new product, Samsung’s current U.S. overview and terms specify a usual 15-day period to send the trade-in device. Samsung reviews the device after it arrives. If it is not sent in time or does not satisfy the applicable requirements, the terms permit a chargeback; the applicable amount and any return option depend on the selected offer and governing terms.
Which devices qualify—and what can change the offer?
Eligibility and value depend on the old device, its declared and inspected condition, and the specific promotion. Samsung’s U.S. materials describe these core checks:

- The device should power on, hold a charge, and not shut down unexpectedly.
- The display should work, and the device must meet the selected offer’s damage requirements. Water damage or disqualifying damage can make it ineligible.
- The device must not be on a banned list, and it must be owned by the participant rather than leased, subject to the carrier-purchase exception described in Samsung’s terms.
- Anti-theft locks must be disabled before shipment.
A cracked-device offer may be available for a particular promotion, but cracked devices are not automatically accepted. Check whether the offer shown at checkout explicitly covers your model and damage, and read its other conditions. Samsung’s terms govern eligibility and the consequences of a device failing inspection.
Do not treat the checkout estimate as guaranteed cash or a universal value for a model. For example, Samsung’s 2026 U.S. terms include a $25 device-value figure in a specific condition-charge scenario; that figure is not a general trade-in valuation. Check the applicable terms for the selected offer.

How to complete a trade-in
- Select the purchase and offer: In Samsung’s U.S. purchase flow, choose a qualifying new product, enter the trade-in device’s make, model, and condition, and review the displayed credit and offer terms before placing the order.
- Back up and transfer what you need: Save important data separately. Samsung mentions Smart Switch, Samsung Cloud, a cable, or the device documentation as ways to transfer content to a new Galaxy.
- Remove data and account protections: Remove personal information and accounts, disable anti-theft locks, remove the SIM and any memory card, and factory-reset the device. Samsung warns that personal information left on a returned device is the sender’s responsibility.
- Ship within the stated period: Use the order-specific label and instructions. Samsung’s current U.S. overview and terms specify a usual 15 days after receiving the new product to send the trade-in; confirm the deadline for your offer.
- Pack and retain the shipment details: Use the new product’s box or another appropriately sized box. Cushion the device on all sides with paper, bubble wrap, or foam, seal the box with packing tape, and remove or cover old shipping labels. Follow the shipping instructions for your order and keep the tracking information.
Samsung’s FAQ and shipping guidance provides packing instructions. Suitable reused packaging is acceptable; a special shipping kit is not required by the cited guidance.
What if Samsung declines the device?
Read the notice and the terms for the offer you selected. Samsung’s terms describe chargebacks when a device is not sent within the stated period or fails the applicable requirements. A return may be available upon request under the stated conditions and deadlines. If the device is returned, the trade-in credit does not remain in effect. The terms for your order control the charge and return process; do not assume a universal fee or remedy.

Samsung credit, carrier promotion, or standalone trade-in?
These routes differ in how the value is delivered and what purchase or account obligations may apply. Samsung says its instant trade-in credit cannot be combined with carrier bill-credit promotions; carrier credits may take one to three billing periods. Compare the exact offer terms before choosing.

For any two offers, compare the net cost of the new device after credits, when and how each credit is paid, the device-condition rules, and what happens if inspection differs from your declaration. Samsung’s overview describes the distinction between its trade-in program, carrier promotions, and the standalone route.

- Confirm the exact trade-in model and condition in the current checkout flow.
- Read the selected offer’s deadline, eligibility rules, and chargeback or return terms.
- Back up data, remove accounts and locks, take out SIM and memory cards, and factory-reset the device.
- Use the order’s shipping label and instructions, pack the device securely, and keep its tracking details.
