In 2026 reporting, ITA Airways also appears in the Network Airlines segment as a joint venture. Regional affiliates, holiday airlines, and financial reporting categories add further names—but they are not all equivalent kinds of airline or ownership relationship.
Which airlines are part of Lufthansa Group?
The clearest way to understand the portfolio is to separate its core passenger brands from related operators and joint ventures. Lufthansa Group describes four network airlines—Lufthansa Airlines, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines—and a separate point-to-point value carrier, Eurowings. Its 2026 first interim report also includes ITA Airways as a joint venture in the Network Airlines segment.
| Airline or operator | Role in the Group | Market orientation or positioning |
|---|---|---|
| Lufthansa Airlines | Core network airline | Germany; part of the Group’s multi-hub network strategy |
| SWISS | Core network airline | Switzerland; part of the Group’s multi-hub network strategy |
| Austrian Airlines | Core network airline | Austria; offer primarily attuned to its local market |
| Brussels Airlines | Core network airline | Belgium; offer primarily attuned to its local market |
| Eurowings | Point-to-point value carrier | Short- and medium-haul routes; low-cost basic fares with optional services |
| ITA Airways | Joint venture included in the Network Airlines segment in the 2026 first interim report | Italy; product primarily attuned to its local market |
| Lufthansa CityLine, Lufthansa City Airlines, and Air Dolomiti | Regional airlines associated with Lufthansa Airlines | Regional operations associated with Lufthansa Airlines |
| Discover Airlines | German holiday airline associated with Lufthansa Airlines | Leisure travel |
| Edelweiss | Swiss holiday airline associated with SWISS | Leisure travel |
| SunExpress | Joint venture with Turkish Airlines and equity investment associated with the Point-to-Point Airlines segment | Not presented as a wholly owned Lufthansa Group airline brand |
These roles and relationships are based on Lufthansa Group’s Passenger Airlines overview, its 2026 first interim report, and its strategy description. Market orientation is not a limit on where an airline flies.
What is the difference between Lufthansa and Eurowings?
Lufthansa Airlines is a network carrier, while Eurowings is the Group’s value carrier for point-to-point short- and medium-haul traffic. The distinction is about how the airlines position and sell their services, not simply about whether a route is short or long.

Lufthansa Airlines is one of the Group’s core network airlines, within a multi-hub strategy. Lufthansa Group associates Lufthansa CityLine, Lufthansa City Airlines, Air Dolomiti, and Discover Airlines with it. Discover is the German holiday airline in this set.
Eurowings: point-to-point and optional services
Eurowings focuses on short- and medium-haul point-to-point travel. Its product model uses low-cost basic fares and lets customers book additional services flexibly. A traveler comparing fares should therefore check what each fare includes rather than treating the headline price as a like-for-like comparison.

The Group’s customer-facing airline names, associated operators, and financial reporting segments describe different things.
