What expires: the discount or the amount you paid?
For traditional vouchers, Groupon’s Terms of Sale distinguish the amount paid from the promotional value. Groupon states that the amount paid does not expire, while the extra promotional value generally expires on the date shown on the voucher, subject to applicable law and the voucher’s Fine Print. For an expired Local voucher, the practical result is usually that the deal’s discount is gone but the merchant is still responsible for honoring the amount you paid. Groupon describes this as redemption value, not a promise that Groupon will send you cash. See Groupon’s Refund Policy.
When can Groupon refund a Local voucher?
Groupon’s published U.S. Refund Policy says an unredeemed Local voucher may be eligible for a refund within three calendar days of purchase, unless the deal page says otherwise. The policy also requires that no appointment has been made and that the deal is not marked Final Sale or non-refundable. After that window, a refund is generally unavailable unless the Fine Print provides an exception.

Groupon lists redeemed vouchers, vouchers with an appointment, requests outside the applicable window, Final Sale terms, and Pay on View vouchers after viewing among refund exclusions. A closed bank dispute is also listed as an exclusion. The three-day period is a Groupon policy term, not a guarantee that every Local purchase qualifies.
Rules for other Groupon purchases
Do not apply the Local-voucher refund rule to other products. Groupon has separate policy sections and terms for travel, goods, and event tickets.

How to check your voucher and decide what to do
- Identify the product type. Open the purchase in your Groupon account and determine whether it is a Local voucher, Getaway, Good, ticket or event purchase, coupon, or merchant gift card.
- Read the deal’s Fine Print. Groupon defines Fine Print as deal-specific terms. Look for Final Sale or non-refundable language, the promotional expiration date, booking or event deadlines, appointment requirements, and return or cancellation terms. Groupon’s Terms of Sale explain that voucher Fine Print can control in a conflict with general terms, subject to applicable law.
- For a Local refund request, check eligibility. Confirm whether the voucher is unredeemed, whether an appointment was made, how many calendar days have passed since purchase, and whether the deal states an exception.
- If only the promotional value has expired, contact the merchant. Ask the issuing merchant to honor the amount paid under the traditional-voucher terms. Groupon says the merchant is responsible for that paid-value redemption.
- For a cash refund or policy dispute, contact Groupon support. Provide the order number and voucher, and point to the relevant Fine Print. Groupon’s guidance directs customers to its FAQ and support process; its merchant guidance says support representatives apply the policy and work with the customer to resolve the situation. These terms summarize Groupon’s published U.S. policies; they do not determine what consumer-protection rights may apply in your location. Groupon’s Terms of Sale qualify their terms by applicable law, and the specific voucher Fine Print may also matter. The available policy pages do not state a publication or last-updated date, so verify the live deal terms and get a case-specific answer from Groupon before relying on a refund decision.
