Hulk Hogan’s Pastamania opened at the Mall of America over Labor Day weekend in 1995 and closed within a year. It was a quick-service pasta restaurant promoted alongside WCW’s launch of Monday Nitro. Retrospective accounts document the short run, but no reviewed source establishes the specific business reason it closed.
What was Pastamania?
Pastamania was a Hulk Hogan-associated quick-service restaurant at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota. Its pitch combined pasta with wrestling-themed branding. VICE describes traditional pasta and Hulk-shaped noodles, while Wrestling Inc. reports menu names including “Hulk’s Power Pasta” and “Hulkaroni and Cheese.” Those surviving descriptions offer examples, not a verified complete menu.
A grand-opening flyer description reproduced by the fan-maintained Tenant Encyclopedia characterizes the restaurant as quick service, with daily specials and mix-and-match pasta platters. Because that tenant page cautions that its information may be inaccurate, treat those details as secondary rather than a definitive official record.
When did it open and close?
Retrospective accounts place the opening at the Mall of America over Labor Day weekend 1995. They describe Pastamania as closing after a few months or within less than a year. The Tenant Encyclopedia lists 1995 as both its opening and closing year, but that fan-maintained listing is not definitive. The exact closing date is not established by these accounts.

How was it connected to WCW’s Monday Nitro debut?
The restaurant’s launch coincided with a major WCW promotion at the mall. The Mall of America’s official timeline dates the debut of WCW’s Monday Nitro in the Rotunda to September 4, 1995, and records Hulk Hogan versus Big Bubba Rogers as the main event. That timeline establishes the broadcast date and venue, not the restaurant’s business performance.
Retrospective coverage describes Pastamania being promoted around the broadcast. Retroist recounts opening footage featuring Hogan, Eric Bischoff, Randy Savage, and Jimmy Hart promoting the restaurant; Wrestling Inc. says the restaurant was highlighted on the show the next day. These accounts show how the restaurant was linked to WCW publicity, but they do not demonstrate that the promotion translated into lasting sales.

Why did Pastamania fail?
The precise reason is unknown. Wrestling Inc. says no clear-cut explanation for the closure has been given. The sources reviewed do not provide sales figures, customer counts, operating costs, rent, ownership records, or firsthand testimony from someone explaining the decision to close.
One retrospective suggestion is that customers may not have been interested, but that is speculation, not documented evidence. The short lifespan alone cannot establish that the food was poor, demand was weak, Hogan neglected the business, or the Mall of America location was unsuitable. What can be said is narrower: Pastamania received conspicuous wrestling promotion, opened in 1995, and shut within a year; the available accounts do not show why.
