Dmitry Saksonov’s comeback story is compelling, but its headline figure needs a qualification: the $250 million valuation attributed to Blockchain Sports has not been substantiated by an appraisal, audited accounts or a disclosed transaction in the sources reviewed. The account of his detention and business collapse is also presented in profile coverage, not independently confirmed by court or company records available here.
What can be described more concretely is the project Saksonov now leads: Blockchain Sports says it combines football academies and sports infrastructure with blockchain technology. Local Brazilian reporting in July 2024 documented three academies and cited figures for investment and adolescent participants, while the company’s own pages describe a technology roadmap that includes Atleta Network.
What is the “$250 million comeback” story?
A Tech Times profile published November 19, 2025, presents Saksonov’s story as a recovery from detention and the loss of an earlier crypto-mining business to the creation of Blockchain Sports. The profile describes the ecosystem as valued at $250 million. Gulf Times repeated the figure in 2025, but neither article supplies the underlying valuation documents. The figure should therefore be understood as a reported claim, not a verified company valuation. Tech Times’ profile; Gulf Times coverage.
What happened to Saksonov’s earlier business?
The Tech Times profile says Saksonov spent more than two years in pre-trial detention after accusations he describes as fabricated, and links that period to the loss of his earlier crypto-mining business. Those are attributed parts of the profile’s narrative. The reviewed sources do not establish the detention, charges, case outcome or business loss through court, custody or company records, so they cannot be presented as independently verified facts. The profile attributes “There’s no manual for surviving that” to Saksonov. It also attributes “Those kids didn’t lack talent. They lacked opportunity” and “Every athlete is a startup” to him. These lines convey the profile’s framing of his experience and ambitions; the sources reviewed do not independently corroborate them as recorded interview transcripts. Tech Times’ profile.
What does Blockchain Sports do?
Blockchain Sports describes itself as sports-market infrastructure built around football academies and a technology ecosystem. Its official site presents both sporting operations and Web3 development, but company descriptions establish what the business says it is building—not independent confirmation of its operating scale, commercial results or completed products. Its Brazilian football academies
In a July 5, 2024 report, Brazilian outlet Itatiaia described three Blockchain Sports academies, in Rio de Janeiro, Sobral and Acopiara. The outlet reported an investment of $10 million, around 400 adolescent participants and a partnership with Fortaleza; it identified Saksonov as CEO. These are Itatiaia’s dated figures and descriptions, not audited totals or a present-day count. Itatiaia’s July 2024 report.
Atleta Network and the technology roadmap
Blockchain Sports identifies Atleta Network as its Layer-1 blockchain. The official homepage lists a testnet and other Web3 milestones alongside future or in-progress products. A roadmap entry is evidence of the company’s stated plans or development status; it is not by itself proof that a product is fully deployed commercially or has achieved widespread use. Is Blockchain Sports really worth $250 million?
The sources reviewed do not establish that value. Neither the Tech Times profile nor Gulf Times provides a priced investment round, acquisition, independent appraisal, audited accounts or other underlying documentation supporting the $250 million figure. Both report it as part of coverage of the company’s claimed ecosystem valuation. Without such documentation, readers should not treat it as a confirmed market value or as a measure of money available to the business. Tech Times; Gulf Times; iTechGuides.

| Figure | What it refers to | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| $10 million | Investment reported for Blockchain Sports’ Brazilian project by Itatiaia on July 5, 2024. | A dated media report; no audited investment record is supplied in the sources reviewed. |
| Around 400 adolescents | Participants reported across the project’s academies by Itatiaia on July 5, 2024. | An approximate historical figure from the outlet, not a current enrollment count. |
| $250 million | Blockchain Sports ecosystem valuation cited by Tech Times in 2025 and repeated by Gulf Times in 2025. | A reported claim without disclosed valuation documentation in those articles or the other reviewed sources. |
The Brazilian figures give readers a dated view of reported academy activity; the $250 million claim is a different kind of figure and lacks supporting valuation evidence. Neither set should be stretched beyond what its source actually reports.
