A useful current planning benchmark is about $623,291 a year, or $3,116 per flight hour at 200 hours annually, according to CRAFT’s October 5, 2026 operating-cost model. That is a modeled U.S. budget for a professionally managed, one-pilot operation—not a guaranteed owner quote. Cirrus’s separate figure of less than $400 per hour applies only with a JetStream contract and excludes fuel, so it is not an all-in operating-cost figure.
What does CRAFT’s estimate include?
CRAFT estimates $310,291 in annual fixed costs and $1,565 in variable costs per flight hour. At 200 hours, the calculation is $310,291 + ($1,565 × 200) = $623,291. Dividing that annual total by 200 gives an effective cost of about $3,116 per hour.
The model is in U.S. dollars and assumes a U.S.-based, professionally managed, one-pilot operation. CRAFT updated it on October 5, 2026. Its cost table and methodology identify the inputs and estimates behind the result.
Estimated annual fixed costs
Fixed costs in CRAFT’s model total $310,291 a year and remain constant across the utilization examples. They include crew salary, training, hangar, insurance, management, and miscellaneous fixed expenses. They are modeled costs, not prices every owner will pay.

Estimated variable costs
CRAFT estimates $1,565 per flight hour, made up of fuel ($620), maintenance ($400), engine-overhaul reserve ($200), crew, landing and handling ($275), and miscellaneous variable costs ($70). Several of these budget lines are CRAFT estimates, so treat them as planning assumptions rather than a quote.
How does annual flight time change the total?
Because the model’s fixed costs are spread across the hours flown, the effective hourly cost is higher at low utilization. CRAFT’s October 5, 2026 estimates show:

- 100% Handmade out of reclaimed wood
- There is 30+ hours of work on each model
- Each model is unique so no two models are exactly alike
- Comes finished with high gloss Polyurethane.
| Annual flight hours | Estimated annual operating cost | Effective cost per hour |
|---|---|---|
| 100 | $466,791 | $4,668 |
| 200 | $623,291 | $3,116 |
| 400 | $936,291 | $2,341 |
These are scenario estimates from CRAFT’s U.S., one-pilot model, not three separate owner quotes. The hourly figure is annual cost divided by annual flight hours; it is not the marginal cost of adding one more hour.
Why do the published fuel-burn figures differ?
Cirrus lists an economic average fuel burn of 70 gallons per hour (469 pounds per hour) on its SmartLift page. CRAFT’s October 2026 model uses 81 gallons per hour, citing Conklin & de Decker’s average hourly fuel-burn figure, and applies an estimated U.S. average FBO Jet A price. These are different published reference assumptions, not measurements that should be averaged into a single definitive rate.

Actual fuel expense depends on how the aircraft is operated and the fuel price paid. CRAFT’s fuel-price input is an estimated U.S. average FBO price, not a fixed national rate. The aircraft’s current Cirrus specifications list 296 gallons of maximum usable fuel and a Williams International FJ33-5A engine; those specifications provide aircraft context but do not establish a personal operating budget.
What does Cirrus’s JetStream cost claim mean?
Cirrus advertises ownership costs below $400 per hour on SmartLift, but its qualification is material: fuel is excluded and a JetStream contract is required. That is a narrower manufacturer program claim, not a directly comparable all-in annual budget like CRAFT’s estimate.

Cirrus describes JetStream as going beyond the standard warranty, including normal-wear replacement, recurrent training, and direct support. It also describes Cirrus ASSIST as providing expedited parts delivery and mobile technical support. These services may affect how an owner manages maintenance and support, but the SmartLift claim does not establish the total cost for an individual aircraft. See Cirrus’s Vision Jet product page for its program description.
A 2024 Cirrus Aircraft Limited prospectus reported typical annual JetStream pricing of approximately US$96,000–US$225,000, varying with aircraft age, agreement length, and utilization. This is a historical range, not a current quote; ask Cirrus for current terms and a price based on the aircraft and agreement under consideration. 2024 prospectus

What is excluded, and what should an owner price separately?
CRAFT’s modeled total excludes aircraft purchase price, financing, depreciation, sales and use tax, major one-off events beyond its reserves, and charter revenue. An owner comparing budgets should check whether each estimate treats those items the same way.
For an owner-specific estimate, replace the model’s assumptions with current figures for:
Quick Recap
- Annual flight hours, which determine how much fixed cost is allocated to each hour.
- Paid-pilot staffing, recurrent training, and management arrangements.
- Hangar and insurance costs for the aircraft, location, and operation.
- Expected fuel burn and local Jet A pricing, including any contract-fuel rate.
- Maintenance and engine reserves, and whether costs are self-funded or bundled under a maintenance program.
- Financing, depreciation, taxes, unusual repairs, and any charter income, which are outside CRAFT’s stated total.
