That figure tops a 2025 list from ProtoThema, but it is a secondary estimate—not an audited construction cost. The comparison below ranks reported machine or installation costs, not the value of the products inside.
How the ranking works
Each amount below is a reported equipment or installation cost cited in ProtoThema’s August 2025 report. ProtoThema does not provide original invoices or a common cost methodology, and the estimates have not been independently verified. Treat them as reported figures, not confirmed current build prices.
The machines also differ sharply in scale: the top entry is a multistorey vehicle showroom and retrieval system, while the others dispense gold, beauty products, caviar or champagne. Their ranking is useful as a comparison of reported costs, not as a like-for-like engineering comparison.

1. Autobahn Motors: about $2 million
ProtoThema’s 2025 report puts the Singapore car facility at about $2 million, making it the highest reported-cost entry. The word “vending machine” is a shorthand for a much larger operation: AsiaOne described a 15-level building with four columns and capacity for 60 cars in 2017. A contemporaneous account said a customer could select a vehicle and have the automated system bring it to the entrance after payment. AsiaOne reported a stated retrieval time of just under two minutes.

The building’s dimensions and capacity are historical reporting; they do not verify its present inventory or operating condition. Autobahn Motors’ website lists tower cars and vehicle categories, but a live website alone does not confirm what is currently available.
2. Gold To Go: about $180,000
ProtoThema’s 2025 estimate, attributed to The Guardian, places a Gold To Go machine at about $180,000. The machine was reported to sell gold bars from one gram to one ounce, with prices updated every ten minutes. That describes the changing price of the bullion being sold; it is separate from the reported cost of the machine.

3. Sephora beauty machine: $157,000
ProtoThema’s 2025 report attributes the $157,000 figure to Luxury Launches and says the machines offered beauty products in US airports. The figure is secondary reporting, not a current Sephora equipment specification, and the reporting does not establish whether those installations still operate.
4. Caviar machine: more than $85,000
ProtoThema’s 2025 list reports a cost above $85,000 for a caviar vending machine. Separately, PYMNTS reported Beverly Hills Caviar machines at three Los Angeles-area malls in 2012. The products were listed at $10 to $500 per ounce in PYMNTS’s 2017 coverage; those are product prices, not the cost of the machines.

5. Moët & Chandon champagne machine: from $35,000
ProtoThema’s 2025 report gives a starting cost of $35,000 for a Moët & Chandon champagne machine and says machines were found in luxury hotels, mainly in New York. It does not establish their current locations or whether they remain in operation.

What the figures do—and do not—tell you
- They compare reported machine costs, not contents. A gold bar or an ounce of caviar can be expensive, but its price is not the cost of the machine that sells it.
- The leader’s cost is not an audited disclosure. Autobahn Motors is the clear leader in ProtoThema’s reported estimates, but the $2 million figure has not been confirmed against an operator invoice or primary price list.
- Not every entry is a standard cabinet. The Singapore facility’s scale makes a direct cost comparison with product-dispensing machines imperfect.
- Historical presence is not proof of current operation. The cited reports establish past descriptions and locations, not the present status of every installation.
