The strongest choice depends on your child’s age, how you travel, and whether you need the stroller for daily use as well as trips. The sources available for this guide identify promising models, but they do not establish a single independently tested set of eight for this publication—so the options below are a shortlist, not a verified top-eight ranking.
How to choose a travel stroller
Start with the situations you expect to face: carrying it through an airport, lifting it onto public transit, fitting it in a car trunk, walking on uneven paths, or using it every day. A lighter, smaller stroller may be easier to transport but can have less basket space or fewer full-size features. Consider the trade-off rather than choosing by weight alone.
- Fold and carry: Check folded dimensions, the number of folding steps, whether one hand is enough, whether it stands when folded, and whether it has a handle or strap.
- Ride and handling: Think about the surfaces you use and how easily the stroller turns. Wheel design and suspension can matter more on rough pavement than on smooth airport floors.
- Child fit and comfort: Check the stated age, height, and weight limits, harness, recline, canopy, footrest, and whether the seat is suitable for a newborn. A newborn insert or bassinet can affect the stroller’s total weight and what is included.
- Storage and extras: Look at basket access and capacity, and confirm whether accessories shown or mentioned are included or sold separately.
- Car-seat setup: Confirm compatibility with the exact seat and adapter model, not just the stroller family name. Check current recall notices for accessories.
- Total value: Compare the configuration you will actually buy. A stroller-only model, newborn pack, bassinet, and travel-system bundle are not interchangeable price or utility comparisons.
Consumer Reports test program leader Joan Muratore, quoted by The Bump, advises families to consider whether the stroller is for a specific trip or will also serve as an everyday stroller. That distinction helps clarify whether compactness, everyday comfort, or both should lead your decision.
Travel stroller candidates by use case
These models appear in published editorial picks, but their labels come from those publishers’ own guides, not from a common head-to-head test. Published rankings differ by category and review method, and the available evidence does not support a definitive ranking of exactly eight for this article.

| Model | Published category or angle | What the source says to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| UPPAbaby Minu V3 | Travel + Leisure’s best overall; Babylist’s versatile pick | Travel + Leisure uses “best overall” within its own guide. Babylist’s “versatile” label makes it a candidate for families balancing travel with broader use; verify the fit and features that matter to your family in the current product configuration. |
| Joolz Aer2 | Babylist’s overall pick | Babylist highlights compact one-handed folding, a carry strap, four-wheel suspension, and newborn readiness. It also notes relatively small storage and high price as trade-offs. Certain Aer2 car-seat adapters are subject to a CPSC recall; the stroller itself is not included. |
| Bugaboo Butterfly 2 | Babylist’s and The Bump’s toddler picks | A candidate to investigate if toddler fit is a priority. Confirm the current model’s limits and dimensions against your child and travel needs. |
| Bombi Bēbee V3 | Babylist’s value pick | A value-oriented candidate in Babylist’s guide. Check the current price and included configuration at purchase. |
| Nuna TRVL lx with PIPA urbn | Babylist’s travel-system pick | Compare the stroller alone with the named stroller-and-car-seat configuration; they provide different equipment and should not be treated as the same purchase. |
| Mompush Nexis Carbon | The Bump’s budget-friendly pick | A budget-oriented candidate in The Bump’s categories. Check the current price, what is included, and whether its features match your travel mode. |
| Stokke YOYO3 with Newborn Pack | The Bump’s newborn pick | The listed configuration includes a Newborn Pack. Verify what is included in the specific listing and whether that setup is right for your child. |
| Doona | The Bump’s car-seat/stroller-combo pick | Consider it for the integrated car-seat-and-stroller use case described by The Bump. The sources here do not provide enough product-specific comparison detail to claim it is better or worse than a conventional stroller and separate infant seat. |
| Mountain Buggy Nano Urban | The Bump’s all-terrain pick | A category candidate for readers considering varied surfaces. Check product-specific details for the terrain and conditions you expect. |
| Mamazing Air Lux with Bassinet | The Bump’s reversible-seat lightweight pick | The named configuration includes a bassinet; account for that component when comparing packed size, carry weight, and included equipment. |
| Ingenuity 3D Mini | The Bump’s umbrella-stroller pick | A candidate in The Bump’s umbrella-stroller category. Compare its fold and everyday usability with your own priorities. |
The category labels and product-specific observations above are attributed to Travel + Leisure, Babylist, and The Bump. They are useful starting points, not a substitute for checking current specifications and the exact configuration being sold.
What published testing can—and cannot—tell you
Travel + Leisure says its strollers were tested for at least two weeks, with longer-term testing continuing for six months. Its stated procedures include assembly, folding and unfolding, brakes, wheels, harness and accessories, pushing indoors and outdoors, and checking overhead-bin compactness. The Bump says it recruited families to test 25 popular travel and lightweight strollers over four years and surveyed more than 500 parents for its 2026 update. Those are the publishers’ stated methods; they are not a shared test protocol or this article’s hands-on evaluation.

Test results and category winners can guide a shortlist, but they do not establish how a stroller will fit your child or perform in your specific trip. Product pages and listings should be checked for current dimensions, weight, limits, included accessories, and configuration. The sources gathered for this guide do not provide a consistent specification table or current prices across all the candidates, so a precise model-by-model numerical ranking would be misleading.
Can you take a travel stroller on a plane?
Sometimes, but “travel stroller” is not a standardized size and does not guarantee that a stroller can go in the cabin. Travel + Leisure says an overhead-bin-sized stroller may be brought onboard “space permitting” and advises checking airline requirements. Acceptance depends on the operating airline, aircraft, cabin space, and crew directions. Check the policy for your specific flight and be prepared for gate-checking; a compact fold alone is not a promise of overhead-bin space.

Check the Joolz Aer2 adapter recall separately
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall on June 18, 2026, for certain Joolz Aer2 car-seat adapters sold in sets of two. Affected adapter identifiers begin with NL311. The notice says the adapters may fail to attach properly, creating a fall hazard; it reports one detachment and no injuries. The recall covers about 3,840 units in the United States and about 148 sold in Canada. CPSC instructs owners of affected adapters to stop using and detach them, then contact Joolz for the stated refund process. The stroller itself is not included in the recall. Check the live notice for the current remedy before acting.
More generally, a safety-standard or compliance statement is not a guarantee that a product is risk-free. The CPSC’s final rule on carriage and stroller safety standards discusses requirements intended to address folding scissoring, shearing, and pinching hazards. For any stroller, use the manufacturer’s instructions and check applicable safety information for the product and its accessories.
