What changed in May 2025?
The documented shift applied to Temu’s U.S. sales, not necessarily to customers in other countries. U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s notice set May 2, 2025, as the effective date for a change to the treatment of low-value shipments originating in China and Hong Kong. CBP’s notice provides the policy context for Temu’s announcement.
On May 5, CBS News reported that Temu told the outlet: “All sales in the U.S. are now handled by locally based sellers, with orders fulfilled from within the country.” At the time, some products carried a “Local Warehouse” badge. Temu’s reported notice said items with that tag shipped from within the shopper’s country or region. CBS News’ report describes the announcement and the label.
Did Temu permanently stop shipping from China?
The available reporting does not support that conclusion. In June 2025, the South China Morning Post reported that Temu was again promoting some direct-from-China products on its U.S. site, after an early-May period when the homepage showed products marked for local warehouses. That makes “Temu has stopped shipping orders from China” too broad if read as a lasting rule covering all U.S. listings.

Temu’s general About Temu page says, “The shipping origins vary depending on the product purchased.” This is a general statement, not confirmation of where a particular live listing ships from or what applies to a specific destination.
How to tell where your Temu order ships from
For a particular purchase, assess the product and order details rather than assuming every Temu item follows the same route.

- Check the product listing. Look for a shipping-origin or local-warehouse label, if one is shown. Labels reported in 2025 do not establish how every current listing or region is labeled.
- Review delivery estimates. Compare the stated delivery window for the item before ordering; shipping origin is only one factor that can affect timing.
- Check checkout for import charges. If checkout displays import charges, use those details for the order. A cross-border parcel is subject to the customs treatment applicable when it enters the destination country; the available sources do not establish a particular current charge for every shipment.
- Use order-specific details after purchase. For an existing order, refer to its tracking and order information rather than inferring the route from Temu’s general policy or another product’s label.
Local warehouse versus direct cross-border shipping

The former U.S. $800 de minimis threshold and a policy-period estimate of up to 4 million low-value parcels per day were reported in May 2025 as context for the U.S. policy change; neither figure establishes Temu’s shipment volume or the current duty-free treatment of a China-origin parcel. Temu’s May 2025 shift was a response to a U.S. customs-policy change, and direct-from-China products were reported back on the U.S. site the following month. The evidence does not establish a live 2026 listing’s origin or a current company-wide fulfillment policy. For a specific item, rely on its current listing, checkout information, and order details—not a platform-wide assumption.
