Southampton confirmed Caspar Jander’s move from FC Nürnberg on a four-year contract on 29 August 2025, but the club did not disclose a transfer fee. An eight-figure price sometimes attached to the transfer is not confirmed by Southampton. Mateus Fernandes left for West Ham in the same window in a package Southampton valued at over £40 million; he later joined Tottenham in July 2026.
Did Southampton confirm an eight-figure fee for Caspar Jander?
No. Southampton’s 29 August 2025 announcement confirmed Jander’s arrival from FC Nürnberg on a four-year contract, but did not state a fee. The Football Association’s 2025–26 agent transaction record lists Southampton and Casper Jander as a permanent transfer in, also without a fee.

An unofficial Southampton transfer tracker has listed €12 million, but that figure is not corroborated by the club announcement or the FA record. Treat it as an unverified estimate, not a confirmed payment or an official valuation. The available records do not establish the deal’s fee structure, add-ons, or payment schedule.
How does Jander’s transfer compare with Mateus Fernandes’s?
The public information is not a like-for-like fee comparison. Southampton disclosed no Jander fee, while its announcement of Fernandes’s departure described a package value for his move to West Ham, not a full financial breakdown.

| Caspar Jander, Nürnberg to Southampton, 29 August 2025 | Four-year contract | Fee not stated by Southampton; FA record also gives no amount. |

Southampton reported that Fernandes had scored two goals in 36 Premier League appearances in the preceding season when it announced his departure. Its 2024 announcement of his signing said he arrived from Sporting on a five-year deal after making 28 Primeira Liga appearances for Estoril on loan.
Is Jander officially Fernandes’s replacement?
The official announcements establish that Jander arrived from Nürnberg and Fernandes left for West Ham on the same date. They do not say Jander was signed as Fernandes’s direct replacement. That description should be treated as media characterization unless tied to a specific attributed report, rather than as a confirmed club statement.

Nor does the evidence provided establish that the two players were recruited for identical tactical roles. Southampton’s technical director Johannes Spors described Jander as “an all-round midfielder” who had attracted interest, including from Premier League clubs. That is the club’s public description, not confirmation of a one-for-one replacement plan.
What did Jander bring from Nürnberg?
In its signing announcement, Southampton said Jander started 32 of Nürnberg’s 34 league matches in the preceding season and recorded three goals and nine assists from central midfield. Those figures help explain the club’s description of him as an all-round midfielder, but they do not establish his future role at Southampton or the transfer price.

“West Ham-bound” is no longer current. Tottenham’s official announcement dated 2 July 2026 confirmed Fernandes’s signing from West Ham. The Southampton-to-West-Ham package value relates to his earlier move in August 2025; it is not a fee for Jander or a valuation of Fernandes’s subsequent transfer.
