There is no single best kitchen shoe for every worker: a washable clog may suit a station with frequent spills, while a lace-up work shoe can offer a more secure fit for someone who prefers a closed, tied shoe. The available product information supports comparing several models, but it does not establish that this publisher tested ten shoes hands-on. The options below are therefore organized by documented features—not presented as original test winners.
How to choose kitchen shoes for your station
Start with the hazards and requirements of your actual workplace, then compare exact models. A “slip-resistant” label is not a guarantee of grip on every floor, contaminant, or worn outsole. ASTM’s F3445-21 standard describes a minimum slip-resistance specification using the F2913 whole-shoe test method, and cautions that controlled laboratory results do not establish performance in every situation people may encounter. ASTM International’s F3445-21 scope is not the same edition as F3445-24 claims listed by some manufacturers for their products.
- Check evidence for the exact shoe. Look for the model-specific test method or certification and edition, rather than assuming that all shoes from a brand share the same status.
- Match construction to the work. Consider whether your station calls for an enclosed upper, a washable surface, water resistance, or a laced fit.
- Assess fit and support. Heel security, width, removable insoles, and comfort over a full shift matter; product descriptions alone cannot establish how a shoe will fit your feet.
- Confirm local details. Model names, specifications, sizes, and availability can vary by region and change over time. Check the manufacturer’s current page for your market before buying.
Kitchen shoes to consider, by use case
These models are candidates based on the features their manufacturers or cited publishers describe. This is not a ranked, hands-on comparison, and no model is a universal recommendation.
For an enclosed, easy-clean clog: Crocs Bistro Work Clog
Crocs describes the Bistro Work Clog as designed for food-service, hospitality, and healthcare workers. Its product page lists an enclosed toe, molded easy-clean construction, slip-resistant tread, ASTM F2913-24 testing, and ASTM F3445-24 certification. Those are manufacturer-listed claims, not independent confirmation of real-world performance. A molded clog may be a practical format where easy cleanup and more coverage than an open clog are priorities; check whether its fit and heel security suit your workplace and preference.

The manufacturer’s Pembroke Leather page describes a leather low-profile shoe with an SRO outsole listed under ASTM F3445-24, ASTM F2913-24 test methods, water resistance, and a removable insole. Slip-resistant footwear can be one part of a workplace injury-prevention program, but a product claim is not a personal guarantee. CDC/NIOSH summarizes a 2019 cluster-randomized study by Bell, Collins, and Chiou involving about 17,000 food-service workers across 226 U.S. school districts. Its poster reports a 67% reduction in slip injuries when workers received free five-star-rated shoes, with 94% participation. In the worker-purchased group, participation was 20%, and the poster reports no reduction in slip injuries. Read the CDC/NIOSH poster for the program context. These findings concern a workplace program and its reported outcomes; they do not certify a particular shoe or predict an individual worker’s result.

Before you buy
- Check your workplace rules. Confirm whether your employer requires a particular shoe style, coverage, or documented slip-resistance standard.
- Match the shoe to the floor and tasks. Consider the contaminants you encounter, how often shoes are cleaned, and whether the upper needs to be wiped or washed.
- Verify the exact model page. Confirm the model name, regional version, current listed features, and applicable standard edition directly with the manufacturer.
- Try the fit under realistic conditions. Check heel hold, width, comfort, and any removable-footbed options. A specification sheet cannot tell you whether a shoe fits your foot.
- Inspect the outsole over time. Tread wear changes the condition of the shoe; do not assume that a new-shoe claim describes a worn pair.
