The available top-10 list is a broad energy ranking, not a definitive ranking of fossil-fuel billionaires. Forbes Middle East published it in March 2026 using the Forbes Real Time Billionaires List snapshot from February 24, 2026. It includes fortunes tied to batteries, automobiles, utilities and infrastructure alongside oil, gas, coal and petrochemicals. Because the accessible source does not reliably preserve all ten net-worth figures, this list identifies the people and the source’s wealth labels without inventing amounts.

Who are the 10 richest energy billionaires on the available list?

Forbes Middle East’s March 2026 feature lists these ten entries in order, based on a February 24, 2026 snapshot. The order is the feature’s broad-energy ranking; it should not be read as a verified fossil-fuels-only ranking or as a live October 2026 ranking.

Rank Person or entry Wealth-source label in the ranking How the label relates to fuel
1 Mukesh Ambani Petrochemicals, oil and gas Includes fossil-fuel and petrochemical interests.
2 Gautam Adani Energy, utilities, infrastructure and commodities Broad energy and infrastructure exposure; the label does not isolate a fuel business.
3 Robin Zeng Batteries Battery wealth, not a fossil-fuel source label.
4 Vagit Alekperov Oil Directly identified with oil.
5 Lyndal Stephens Greth and family Oil and gas Directly identified with oil and gas; the entry is a family fortune.
6 Leonid Mikhelson and family Gas and chemicals Includes gas and chemicals; the entry is a family fortune.
7 Huang Shilin Batteries Battery wealth, not a fossil-fuel source label.
8 Gennady Timchenko Oil and gas Directly identified with oil and gas.
9 Wang Chuanfu Batteries and automobiles Battery and automotive wealth, not a fossil-fuel source label.
10 Dang Yanbao Coal Directly identified with coal.

Forbes Middle East’s accessible feature reports the names and categories but its text extraction is damaged, so a complete, reliable set of net-worth amounts cannot be reproduced from it. No figures are included rather than mixing estimates from different dates or sources. [Forbes Middle East, March 2026]

Why this is not a strict list of fuel billionaires

“Energy” covers more than fuels burned for power or transport. The ranking groups together people whose wealth-source labels include oil, gas, coal and petrochemicals, but also batteries, automobiles, utilities, infrastructure and commodities. Robin Zeng, Huang Shilin and Wang Chuanfu appear because the list includes battery or automotive fortunes; that does not make them fossil-fuel billionaires.

Separate 2026 sector figures reported by Forbes Brasil illustrate the distinction: its energy grouping covered 115 people with a combined US$712.9 billion, while its clean-and-renewable subset comprised 41 people with US$196.8 billion. Those are totals for the respective groupings, not totals for fossil-fuel billionaires or for the ten people above. [Forbes Brasil, March 11, 2026]

How to interpret the ranking and its estimates

It is a dated snapshot, not an October 2026 leaderboard

The March feature attributes its order to Forbes’ real-time list as of February 24, 2026. Forbes says its real-time ranking tracks daily changes in wealth. Its live methodology page, updated October 8, 2026, says public holdings are updated every five minutes while markets are open, using stock prices delayed by 15 minutes; fortunes significantly tied to private companies are updated once daily. Different update schedules and changing asset values mean a rank or estimate needs its date attached. The October page does not supply usable current profiles for all ten names in the March feature, so the March order cannot be called current for October. Some entries are family fortunes

The list names Lyndal Stephens Greth and family and Leonid Mikhelson and family. Those are not presented as individual-only fortunes, so comparing them with individual entries as if every amount belonged to one person would be misleading.

Energy fortunes can span sectors

A person’s wealth-source label does not necessarily describe every investment they hold. Forbes Brasil, for example, describes George Kaiser as retaining oil and liquefied natural gas interests while also investing in solar, storage, wind and grid projects. That example helps explain why a broad energy classification does not sort fortunes neatly into “fossil” and “clean” camps. [Forbes Brasil]
