Tesla’s Markham facility makes equipment used to manufacture batteries at Tesla Gigafactories; it is not a plant producing consumer battery cells. The site is reported at 95 Clegg Road, Markham. In 2021, Mayor Frank Scarpitti first described its location more generally as south of Highway 7 and west of Warden.
Where is Tesla’s Markham facility?
The facility is at 95 Clegg Road, Markham, Ontario, according to a September 29, 2026 property report from Connect CRE Canada. When the project was announced in November 2021, the mayor’s office described the area as south of Highway 7 and west of Warden. That was an area description, not a street address; the later commercial property report supplies the more precise address.
What does the Markham site make?
The facility makes specialized manufacturing equipment for battery production at Tesla’s Gigafactories—not battery cells for retail sale. Mayor Scarpitti described the announced output as manufacturing equipment to be used in Gigafactories’ battery production. Tesla later said its Markham and Richmond Hill manufacturing plants design and engineer battery assembly-line equipment deployed to its factories around the world, in a 2023 submission to the House of Commons Finance Committee.
Electric Mobility Canada’s April 2025 account describes Tesla Toronto Automation’s work in Markham and Richmond Hill as conceptualizing, designing, engineering, machining, assembling, programming, and managing Tesla’s in-house battery-cell manufacturing equipment. In practical terms, the facility supports the production of batteries elsewhere by making the machinery and systems used on battery lines.

What has not been disclosed about the Markham operation?
The available reports do not establish a Markham-specific production capacity, direct employee count, project investment, or annual output of battery equipment. National Tesla figures should not be treated as site-level numbers: Electric Mobility Canada reported more than 1,400 people employed by Tesla in Canada and more than 250 Canadian-based industry suppliers in 2025, but neither figure is specific to the Markham facility. Its account also cited a 2021 assessment estimating Tesla’s contribution to Canadian GDP at $762 million; that is a Canada-wide figure, not Markham-site output.
