Yes, Tesla’s U.S. trade-in program covers trucks, including Cybertrucks, when trading toward a new or Certified Pre-Owned Tesla. But Tesla’s app instructions for transferring a Cybertruck after sale do not settle whether every owner’s purchase agreement permits resale without conditions. Check the terms accepted for your specific order before listing it, and compare Tesla’s final inspected offer with private-party estimates for the same configuration and condition.
Can you trade in a Cybertruck to Tesla?
Tesla says it accepts passenger cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs—including gasoline vehicles and EVs—for trade-in credit toward a new or Certified Pre-Owned Tesla. That stated policy includes the Cybertruck as a truck; it does not describe a routine cash-buying program for a Cybertruck outside an eligible Tesla purchase. Tesla’s U.S. trade-in page explains the process.
How Tesla’s trade-in process works
- Provide vehicle details, including the VIN, odometer mileage, ZIP code, and damage history. Tesla may also request photos.
- Place an order for an eligible Tesla to receive the final trade-in offer.
- Have the vehicle inspected. The final offer is subject to physical inspection and may reflect the vehicle’s actual condition and details.
- Review the offer’s timing and your purchase figures before accepting. Tesla says its final offer is non-negotiable, does not match competing offers, and expires after 30 days or 1,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Tesla says it considers a Tesla vehicle’s configuration, history, mileage, age, the information provided by the owner, market data, and internal product knowledge. Its page also says loan payoff or equity can be included in the purchase agreement; check your state’s tax rules rather than assuming the same treatment applies everywhere.
What do current Cybertruck value estimates show?
Kelley Blue Book’s checked page for the 2026 All-Wheel Drive Pickup 4D 6 ft gives condition-based estimates below. They apply to that configuration and the page’s valuation context—not automatically to another trim, mileage, location, or sale date. KBB cautions that value depends on condition and market factors and that depreciation estimates are not guaranteed. See KBB’s 2026 Cybertruck values.

These are estimates, not guaranteed offers or completed-sale prices. Edmunds’ checked 2026 Cybertruck page says it lacks enough data to provide an accurate appraisal. Although it displays a modeled five-year depreciation illustration, Edmunds’ stated data limitation means that illustration should not be treated as observed resale performance. See Edmunds’ 2026 appraisal page.
Is private sale allowed after delivery?
The available Tesla materials point in different directions, so a universal yes or no would overstate what they establish. The owner manual documents an operational path for transferring a Cybertruck after a sale; the public FAQ uses broad language about both reservation transfers and resale after delivery but does not clearly explain how its answer applies to an already-delivered vehicle.
What the owner manual explains
Tesla’s Cybertruck Owner’s Manual says owners can remove their ownership and transfer the vehicle to a new owner in the Tesla mobile app. It also describes a buyer claiming ownership in some circumstances if the previous owner cannot complete the transfer. The manual notes that subscriptions, incentives, upgrades, and some features may not transfer. These are technical transfer instructions, not proof that every owner’s contract allows an unrestricted resale.

What the FAQ and your agreement mean
Tesla’s Cybertruck FAQ asks, “Can I transfer my reservation to someone else or resell my vehicle after delivery?” Its displayed answer begins “No,” then discusses non-transferable reservations and cancellation of orders believed to have been made for resale. The wording does not clearly distinguish a reservation from an already-delivered vehicle.
Tesla’s indexed U.S. order-agreement template is version US v.20250904, but a template is not necessarily the version or set of terms an individual owner accepted. Review the purchase agreement for your Cybertruck’s order date and any applicable addendum before arranging a private sale. The manual’s transfer process does not override contractual terms, and the FAQ alone should not be treated as a definitive legal ruling on every delivered vehicle. Tesla’s order-agreement page provides the indexed agreement materials.

Compare like with like: match the Cybertruck’s trim or configuration, mileage, condition, location, and valuation date. Put Tesla’s actual final offer beside private-party estimates, but keep the labels clear: a valuation is not a buyer’s offer, and an offer is not a completed transaction.

- Net proceeds: Account for any loan payoff or negative equity, not just the headline vehicle value.
- Certainty: Tesla’s final trade-in figure follows an order and is subject to inspection; a private-party estimate does not guarantee that a buyer will pay that amount.
- Time and effort: A private sale requires finding and coordinating with a buyer and completing the sale and title steps. Weigh that work against the convenience and purchase-linked nature of Tesla’s trade-in route.
- State rules: Confirm local tax and title procedures. Tesla specifically advises owners to check state tax rules, and treatment should not be generalized nationally.
A reported example is not a depreciation rate: TechTimes reported on May 25, 2025, that one owner received a $63,100 Tesla trade-in quote for a 2024 AWD Cybertruck said to have cost $100,000 and accumulated 19,623 miles. The report described a quote, not a completed transaction or representative market statistic. Read the TechTimes report.
There is no reliable, representative Cybertruck-wide depreciation percentage established by these figures. An individual quote, a valuation estimate, and an actual resale are different kinds of evidence; avoid turning one into a prediction for another owner’s truck.
