Mt. Joy planned to open a second Seattle restaurant at The Deck, Amazon’s food court at 1051 Thomas St. in South Lake Union, on Nov. 19, 2024. The chicken-sandwich chain paired a menu of fried chicken with vegetarian and vegan options and promoted regional sourcing and regenerative agriculture. Local reporting in March 2026 later said both Seattle locations had closed.

How the South Lake Union restaurant fit into Mt. Joy’s Seattle story
Mt. Joy was founded by tech entrepreneur Robbie Cape and Seattle restaurateur Ethan Stowell. The business began as a Capitol Hill food truck and opened its first brick-and-mortar restaurant at 1530 11th Ave. in December 2023. GeekWire reported that Mt. Joy raised $1.5 million in 2023 from a variety of investors as it opened that first restaurant. GeekWire’s 2023 coverage described the opening and fundraising.
What was on the menu
The announced menu included fried chicken sandwiches, tenders, wings, fries and shakes, as well as a portobello sandwich and a vegan tofu wrap. That mix gave diners alternatives to chicken, though the available coverage does not establish details such as ingredients, prices or whether every item was available at all times.

What Mt. Joy said about sourcing and sustainability
Mt. Joy presented itself as focused on regenerative agriculture, pasture-raised chicken, sustainable farming and regional sourcing. GeekWire reported the company’s claim that over 90% of its food came from Washington, Oregon, California and Idaho. That is an attributed company figure, not an independently audited sourcing share. GeekWire’s 2024 report is the source for the claim.
In 2023, Capitol Hill Seattle News reported that Mt. Joy said most ingredients came from within 200 miles and its meat came from five local farms. The outlet quoted co-founder and farmer Grant Jones describing a constraint on sourcing pasture-raised chicken: “There is a very small venn diagram of people who pasture raise chickens and are willing to kill and process those chickens.” These were company statements, not independent measurements of the broader food system. Capitol Hill Seattle News’ opening report provides that context.

Discover South Lake Union quoted CEO Robbie Cape saying Mt. Joy was “on the path to showing the industrial food complex that it’s possible to scale regeneratively grown food and move away from factory farming.” It also quoted Amazon Head of Asset Management, North America Kristen Rincon saying, “Mt. Joy’s approach means more carbon sequestration, which reduces CO2 emissions.” Rincon’s statement expresses a claimed benefit; the cited coverage does not provide an independently measured environmental impact figure for Mt. Joy. Discover South Lake Union’s announcement includes the remarks.

Local outlets reported in March 2026 that Mt. Joy had closed both Seattle locations. MyNorthwest reported the closures on March 25, 2026, and Capitol Hill Seattle News also reported that the Capitol Hill flagship had shuttered. The available reports do not give an exact shutdown date for each site or include a direct closure statement from the company. MyNorthwest’s report and Capitol Hill Seattle News’ report describe the closures.
