Syed Muhammad Taha took charge as chief executive officer of K-Electric on 15 April 2026, the company announced the next day. K-Electric’s current leadership page also lists him as CEO. His return follows an earlier role at the utility and a later period leading Pakistan State Oil (PSO).
When did Taha resume the role?
K-Electric said Taha’s current tenure began on 15 April 2026. The company announced the appointment on 16 April in its announcement. Its current leadership listing, accessed on 8 October 2026, identifies him as CEO.
His path back to K-Electric
According to K-Electric’s official biography, Taha previously served the company as Chief Distribution Officer. He later became Managing Director and CEO of PSO, serving from February 2020. K-Electric says his PSO tenure included net sales of Rs 3.3 trillion and consolidated earnings per share (EPS) of Rs 35.03 in FY2025. Those figures are claims in K-Electric’s announcement; the sources cited here do not independently validate the underlying financial results.
Career and qualifications
K-Electric’s biography also describes Taha’s work as Executive Director at Oasis Energy and his leadership of the Program Management Office at Nigeria’s Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company. Earlier roles listed by the company include positions at Shell Pakistan, Caltex Pakistan (a Chevron company), and Pakistan Steel Mills. K-Electric says he holds an engineering degree and an MBA in Finance from the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi.

The company characterizes Taha as having “over three decades of experience” in the energy sector. That is K-Electric’s description of his experience, not an independently verified assessment in the cited sources.
What Taha said on taking charge
In K-Electric’s 16 April announcement, Taha said: “K-Electric drives Pakistan’s economic heartbeat. Leading this institution during such a significant sector-wide transformation is a profound responsibility. While challenges exist, the opportunity to innovate for our customers, shareholders, and the national economy has never been greater. We will focus on agility, service reliability, and future-ready technologies to power Karachi’s growth.” The statement was issued by the company; it was not a separately conducted interview.

Business Recorder republished the announcement on 17 April 2026 as a press release, so that republication is not independent confirmation of the company’s claims.
