Blind’s September 2024 online survey found that 91% of its surveyed Amazon professionals were dissatisfied with the company’s announced five-day office policy. The poll included 2,585 verified Amazon professionals in the United States, but its online, non-probability method does not show that the result represents all Amazon employees.
What Blind’s survey found
Blind published its results on September 24, 2024, after Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced that corporate employees would be expected to work in the office five days a week beginning January 2, 2025. Blind surveyed 2,585 verified Amazon professionals in the United States online from September 17–19, 2024. Blind’s report described four yes-or-no questions.
The central question was: “Are you satisfied with Andy Jassy’s decision to require in-office work five days a week beginning in January 2025?” Blind reported that 91% of respondents were dissatisfied.
| Question asked by Blind | Reported result | What the figure measures |
|---|---|---|
| Were respondents satisfied with the five-day office decision? | 91% dissatisfied | Respondents’ stated opinion of the announced policy |
| Were respondents considering looking for another job because of the policy? | 73% said yes | Stated consideration, not completed applications or departures |
| Did respondents know anyone at Amazon considering a job search because of the policy? | 80% said yes | Respondents’ reports about other people |
| Did respondents know anyone who had quit because of the recently announced policy? | 32% said yes | Respondents’ reports about someone else, not a verified departure count or proof of cause |
GeekWire described the poll as unscientific and noted that it may have attracted a disproportionate number of people upset about the change. Blind’s online survey description does not establish probability sampling or representativeness. The percentages should therefore be read as the answers of Blind’s surveyed group, not as estimates for Amazon’s entire workforce. GeekWire’s coverage also emphasized this limitation.

What Amazon’s policy changed
Before the September 2024 announcement, Amazon’s stated baseline allowed employees to work remotely up to two days a week, with at least three in-office days. Jassy’s 2023 update set out management’s rationale for in-person work. He wrote, “Collaborating and inventing is easier and more effective when we’re in person.” He also presented office attendance as supporting learning and company culture. These are Amazon leadership’s stated reasons, not findings tested by Blind’s poll.
In his September 16, 2024 announcement, Jassy said Amazon would return to office attendance as it had been before the pandemic, with the five-day expectation scheduled to begin January 2, 2025. The memo described exceptions for extenuating circumstances and approved remote-work exceptions.

Axios later reported that approximately 50,000 Amazon employees returned to Seattle offices five days a week on January 2, 2025. That report concerns Seattle; it does not establish every organization’s local practice or the complete set of exceptions in 2026. Axios’s account provides that location-specific context.
How to interpret the job-search findings
The 73% figure records respondents who said they were considering another job because of the policy. It does not tell how many applied, received offers, resigned, or left Amazon. Likewise, the 80% and 32% figures ask what respondents knew about other people; they are not independently verified counts of searches or resignations.

A separate report from the Strategic Organizing Center should not be combined with Blind’s results. SOC surveyed 1,065 current Amazon corporate workers online from November 4–26, 2024, using online discussion forums, social media, and targeted digital advertising. Its December report said 48% of respondents had already applied for jobs outside Amazon and 68% were somewhat or very likely to leave within the next year. Those figures come from a different sample, sponsor, field period, and set of questions. SOC’s report describes its own survey.

Blind’s poll is useful as a snapshot of strong dissatisfaction and stated job-search consideration among the Amazon professionals who answered it. For workers weighing the policy personally, the figures do not predict whether colleagues will leave, establish an effect on productivity or retention, or measure the financial consequences of a longer commute or changed household arrangements. Those outcomes were not tested by the poll.

- High-Resilience Molded Foam Seat – Won’t Flatten After 1 Year – Instead of budget foam that hardens and sags within months, the seat is built with high-density, high-resilience molded foam that bounces back day after day. It maintains its shape and cushioning far longer, preventing the “bottoming out” discomfort common at this price point
- Adjustable Lumbar, Not a Fixed Afterthought – Unlike flimsy plastic supports that crack or lose tension, this chair features a durable lumbar mechanism that adjusts depth to match your spine’s natural curve. Genuinely relieves lower back pressure during long sitting sessions
- Breathable Mesh Backrest – No Peeling, No Heat Buildup – Say goodbye to flaking faux leather. The high-tension mesh back promotes continuous airflow, keeping you cool in warm environments and eliminating the mess of peeling upholstery. Mesh holds up significantly better over time and looks professional years later
- Anti-Sink BIFMA Certified Gas Cylinder – A common failure in budget chairs: the pneumatic cylinder loses pressure and slowly sinks during use. Our Class 3 BIFMA-certified gas lift is built to hold its height reliably, so your chair stays exactly where you set it—year after year. No more sudden drops or mid-work adjustments
- Heavy-Duty Metal Core Base (330 lbs Capacity) – Thin plastic bases can crack under stress, especially near the cylinder hub. We use a reinforced nylon base with a metal core, providing the durability and peace of mind you need. Smooth-rolling, 360° silent casters glide across hardwood, tile, or carpet without scratching or catching
Its clearest finding is narrower: among Blind’s 2,585 surveyed U.S. Amazon professionals, opposition to the announced five-day policy was widespread. The result should not be treated as a company-wide employee census or as proof that the policy caused a particular number of departures.
