When did Directive 8020 come out?
Bandai Namco announced on February 10, 2026 that Directive 8020 would release on May 12, 2026. On that date, the publisher confirmed the game had launched for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. The May launch superseded the earlier target of the first half of 2026. Bandai Namco’s launch announcement identifies the game as a cinematic sci-fi survival horror title.

What happened in 2025?
In July 2025, Supermassive Games began a redundancy consultation expected to affect 36 employees, according to Windows Central’s report. The studio also moved Directive 8020 from its planned October 2, 2025 release to the first half of 2026. Supermassive said the additional time would help deliver the best experience.

The announcement placed the consultation and delay together, but the reported statement does not establish that the job cuts caused the schedule change. The later May 12, 2026 release date replaced the first-half window.
How many people were affected by the later layoffs?
The 2026 developments were a separate round, not a continuation of the 2025 figure. On August 11, 2026, Supermassive began another redundancy consultation, expected to affect up to 75 people. PC Gamer quoted the studio describing it as “a necessary step to help ensure the sustainability of the company.” That was a forecast during consultation, not a confirmed final number.

On October 6, VGC reported a LinkedIn post by former IT and facilities director Frank Tindle saying that “More than 70 brilliant people are leaving Supermassive.” His post named developers, artists, producers, QA, operations and other staff. This is Tindle’s reported statement, not a final count confirmed by the studio. The consultation’s “up to 75” and his “more than 70” are distinct attributed figures, not interchangeable official totals.

Bandai Namco also lists Turning Points, a story tree that lets players revisit decisions, and Movie Night, a couch co-op mode for up to five players.
