Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That is Take-Two and Rockstar’s latest announced plan, not a guarantee. When does GTA 6 come out?
The latest official schedule identified here lists Grand Theft Auto VI for November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar announced that date in November 2025; Take-Two’s May 2026 release schedule and Rockstar’s June 2026 pre-order announcement continued to list it. Take-Two’s May 2026 results release also said the company expected its fiscal 2027 operating performance to be driven by the launch. That makes the release commercially important to Take-Two, but does not guarantee the date cannot change.

Why was GTA 6 delayed?
Take-Two’s stated reason for the first schedule change
In May 2025, Take-Two said the game, then expected in Fall 2025, was being moved to May 26, 2026. CEO Strauss Zelnick said the company supported Rockstar “taking additional time to realize their creative vision” and emphasized its commitment to excellence. Take-Two’s May 2025 announcement framed the extra time as serving the game’s creative vision and quality, rather than identifying a specific production problem.
What the later comment adds
In June 2026, Zelnick described Rockstar’s ambition in a response about the development timeline: “The team at Rockstar really does seek to do something that’s never been done before. That’s really hard, and it takes a long time.” The comment was reported by TechRadar’s June 2026 interview coverage. It offers broad context about ambition and difficulty, not a technical explanation or a detailed account of the schedule.

Why the date is still called a mystery
The date is not unknown: Rockstar announced November 19, 2026 in November 2025. The unresolved part is why the planned May 26, 2026 launch moved again to November. The public statements cited here do not provide a complete explanation of that later change, a named technical blocker, or a detailed production timeline. Claims that it was caused by a particular technical issue, marketing decision, hardware constraint, or financial strategy would go beyond what these statements establish.
What is announced about platforms and editions?
Rockstar’s June 24, 2026 pre-order announcement lists PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as the launch platforms. It does not announce a PC release date. General comments from Zelnick about Take-Two releasing games on platforms with meaningful audiences over time are not a specific PC announcement or timing commitment.
