Lenskart CEO Peyush Bansal told TechCrunch the transaction valued the eyewear company at $5 billion; the deal announcement confirmed the investment size and structure, but did not state a valuation.
Who invested $200 million in Lenskart?
Avendus Capital, the deal adviser, announced that Temasek and Fidelity Management & Research Company (FMR) participated in the $200 million secondary investment. Avendus said, “This investment marks Temasek doubling down on its existing investment in Lenskart, while Fidelity Management & Research Company (FMR) joins the cap table.” Avendus Capital’s announcement did not identify an individual speaker for that statement.
Reuters also reported the $200 million transaction, citing Avendus, and described it as a secondary investment. Reuters’ report identifies Lenskart as an eyewear retailer selling eyeglasses, sunglasses, contact lenses and related accessories, with operations across India, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
What was Lenskart valued at?
The company was valued at $5 billion, according to Lenskart co-founder and CEO Peyush Bansal, who gave that figure in a text message to TechCrunch. The valuation is therefore attributable to Bansal as reported by TechCrunch; Avendus’s announcement confirms the $200 million investment but does not state the valuation.

Was the Lenskart deal a secondary sale?
Yes. In a secondary share sale, existing shares are transferred from sellers to buyers. The buyers’ money goes to those selling shareholders, rather than directly to the company as fresh operating capital. Avendus described the Lenskart transaction as secondary, so the $200 million should not be characterized as new capital raised by Lenskart for its business.
The reviewed announcements do not name the selling shareholders, and TechCrunch reported that their identities were not disclosed. The SEC’s Investor.gov glossary explains the broader distinction between primary and secondary markets: a primary issuance sells newly issued securities, while a secondary transaction involves investors trading existing securities.

What the deal does—and does not—establish
The transaction put Temasek further into Lenskart’s ownership and added Fidelity Management & Research Company to its cap table, according to Avendus. It does not establish that Lenskart itself received the sale proceeds, nor does the public information reviewed establish who sold shares or how many shares changed hands.
Lenskart currently describes itself as a technology-driven eyewear company on its investor-relations page, which also hosts corporate disclosures. That company description provides context for the business, but it is separate from the terms of the 2024 secondary transaction.
