Vouch Raised $90 Million in 2021; Its Series C Valuation Was $550 Million

Vouch announced $90 million in new financing in September 2021, but the money came in two rounds: a $60 million Series C associated with a reported $550 million valuation and a separate $30 million Series B1. The company also announced it had become a licensed insurance carrier. These are historical 2021 figures—not a current valuation or funding total.

How Vouch’s $90 million was divided

The financing was not one $90 million Series C. TechCrunch reported a $60 million Series C co-led by SVB Capital and Ribbit Capital, alongside a previously unannounced $30 million Series B1 led by Redpoint Ventures. The reported $550 million valuation applied to the Series C.

TechCrunch said Vouch had raised $160 million in total since its 2018 founding as of the September 2021 report. It also named Allegis Group, Sound Ventures and SiriusPoint among investors. TechCrunch’s September 10, 2021 report provides the round structure and valuation.

Why the carrier announcement mattered

Vouch’s September 9, 2021 announcement paired the fundraising news with its move to become a licensed insurance carrier. The company said it could then back its own policies alongside reinsurance partners, with greater control over policy design and underwriting. That is Vouch’s description of the benefit, not an independently established comparison with every other startup insurer.

At the time, Vouch described its business as digital commercial insurance for startups and high-growth companies. SiriusPoint’s September 10 announcement listed business property, general liability, directors and officers (D&O), employment practices liability and cyber coverage, and mentioned a newly launched Work From Anywhere policy. It also described a multi-year underwriting-capacity arrangement and its investment in Vouch; those roles are distinct from Vouch’s statement about backing policies alongside reinsurance partners.

Vouch’s announcement and SiriusPoint’s announcement describe the carrier milestone and partnership. Vouch said its approach was to tailor coverage to a company’s activities, customers, growth stage and risk profile.

What Vouch reported about its business in 2021

In TechCrunch’s September 2021 article, the following operating figures were attributed to Vouch:

  • A 7x year-over-year increase in its customer base.
  • More than $5.7 billion in risk protected across thousands of policies.
  • More than 1,600 clients.

These were company-reported figures, not independently audited financial results. TechCrunch said Vouch declined to disclose hard revenue figures. The same article quoted CEO Sam Hodges saying that a typical client could get a quote and bind coverage online in under 10 minutes without phone calls or paperwork. That was a 2021 company-reported process claim, not a current service guarantee.

What the $550 million valuation does—and does not—tell you

The $550 million number was the reported valuation associated with the $60 million Series C in 2021. It should not be read as Vouch’s current value. A later funding item does not establish a new valuation or a current cumulative funding total: Y Combinator’s profile lists Vouch as founded in 2018 and active, and shows a $25 million Series C-1 funding item dated March 12, 2024.

Y Combinator’s company profile identifies that later dated item. Vouch’s newsroom lists later company announcements, but neither source establishes a present-day valuation in the information cited here.

What to check if you are evaluating business insurance

A funding announcement does not determine whether a policy fits a particular company. When comparing startup-focused commercial insurance, examine the coverage category, limits and exclusions, who underwrites the policy, application requirements, and availability in your state. Vouch’s current disclosures say products are subject to application and underwriting requirements, not all products are available in every state, and pricing depends on multiple factors. A suitable recommendation or quote depends on current policy terms and the applicant’s circumstances.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
