March 2026 Chicago soybean futures settled at $10.65¾ per bushel on Tuesday, February 3, up 5½ cents for the day. The contract had been reported up 8 cents at $10.68¼ in a 9:07 a.m. CT update, so it finished below that morning quote; that update does not establish the session high.

March soybean futures settlement on Feb. 3

Successful Farming reported that March soybeans closed 5½ cents higher at $10.65¾ per bushel. The same report listed March corn up 2¾ cents at $4.28½ per bushel, while wheat contracts were mixed. Successful Farming’s Feb. 3 market report gives the settlement and the day’s commentary.

A separate same-day summary from Total Farm Marketing also reported March soybeans up 5½ cents at $10.65¾. It said March soybean oil gained 1.29 cents to 54.49 cents, while March soybean meal fell $2.60 to $291.90. Total Farm Marketing’s Feb. 3 recap provides those related-market figures.

Why soybeans were higher—and why the morning gain narrowed

Market commentary on Feb. 3 pointed to several possible supports, but it did not establish that any one factor caused the settlement or quantify each factor’s effect.

Proposed 45Z guidance and soybean oil

Successful Farming linked overnight strength in soybean oil to proposed Treasury guidance for the 45Z Clean Fuel Production Credit. StoneX chief commodities economist Arlan Suderman said the draft appeared to remove an indirect land-use charge from the carbon-intensity score formula, which could increase soybean oil’s value for renewable diesel and biodiesel. He also said the implications for demand depended on further EPA decisions about blending requirements and small-refinery exemptions.

Suderman described the proposed guidance this way: “North American feedstocks are favored, and used cooking oil from outside of North America is statutorily disqualified beginning in 2026.” That is his contemporaneous description of a proposal in the Feb. 3 report, not a substitute for checking current policy or later agency guidance.

Trade optimism, oil strength and South American supply

Total Farm Marketing cited optimism about India-related trade and soybean oil strength as supportive context. It also reported that StoneX had raised its estimate for Brazil’s 2025/26 soybean production to 181.62 million metric tons from 177.61 million. A larger expected crop can weigh on supply expectations, but the estimate is a forecast reported by Total Farm Marketing, not a final production result.

Successful Farming quoted the Commstock Report: “The grains were positive across the board today, a nice change from the negativity we saw late last week.” The commentary said the rally’s durability was uncertain; it discussed support around $10.30–$10.40 and difficulty moving much above $10.80, while naming crush numbers, possible 45Z effects and an India trade deal as potential supports and the large South American crop as a possible constraint. Those were market views at the time, not guarantees or current price levels.

The morning quote was not the close

Successful Farming’s 9:07 a.m. CT update put March soybeans up 8 cents at $10.68¼. By settlement, the contract was up 5½ cents at $10.65¾. The reported morning price therefore exceeded the close, but the available figures do not show the session high or establish why the price changed between that update and settlement.

The $10.65¾ figure is a futures settlement for the March contract, not a guaranteed amount a farmer would receive at a local elevator. A cash bid can differ because of local basis and other terms. To compare reports across dates, match the same contract month and compare settlement with settlement; keep futures prices separate from local cash bids.
