Fortis’s official site currently features Twilight Towers and Bloom & Breakfast; those listings show what the company presents today, not proof that its original social-impact goals have been achieved.
What Fortis announced at launch
Fortis announced its launch on March 2, 2022, describing itself as a global video game developer and publisher. Its announcement said it was a wholly owned subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands and that Sands would fully finance the company. Patrick Dumont, then Sands president and COO, said the company was prepared to invest for the long term. The announcement did not establish a financing amount, and it should not be read as evidence of Fortis’s current financing terms.
The launch release also said more than 150 employees were already on board. That is a figure reported at launch in 2022—not a current headcount.
Who founded and led Fortis
The launch announcement named Steven Chiang as co-founder and president, Shawn Foust as COO, and Calvin Lau as CPO. Fortis’s official About page, accessed October 8, 2026, continues to list all three in those roles.

At launch, Chiang framed the company’s ambitions in cultural terms: “Our view is that we are at the beginning of a massive new opportunity for games to make their greatest and most positive impact on global culture, and the human experience.”
The strategy Fortis described in 2022
Fortis’s launch vision emphasized games-as-a-service, social mechanics, and experiences intended to support meaningful relationships and communities across platforms and genres. These were company goals, not demonstrated outcomes. The announcement also identified three development teams it had acquired: Doppio Games in Portugal, Oktagon Games in Brazil, and Metagame in Romania.
In a March 29, 2022 interview, Foust said Fortis would take thoughtful risks and try to advance service-game design. On platforms and business models, he said the company would assess the audiences a concept could entertain and select platforms and business models to fit. He also acknowledged that claims about disruption required a released game to demonstrate a real response: “None of this is disruptive until we release a game that causes a response. Until then, we’re just words on a page and games in a pipeline.” Those comments describe Foust’s view at that time, not an independent evaluation of Fortis’s later performance.

As of October 8, 2026, Fortis’s official homepage features two games. The descriptions below reflect the company’s own product pages; they are not hands-on reviews. Both pages disclose in-game purchases that include random items.

The launch announcement establishes Fortis’s 2022 ownership and financing description, founding leadership, launch-era staffing figure, and stated strategy. The current official pages establish the leadership roles Fortis lists and the games it features. The available information does not establish Fortis’s current employee count, a financing amount or updated financing terms, or whether its stated social ambitions have produced measurable effects.
