Yes. Sony Interactive Entertainment and Tencent resolved Sony’s lawsuit over Light of Motiram in a confidential settlement. The federal docket lists a stipulated dismissal filed on December 17, 2025. The settlement ended the case, but the public record cited here does not reveal its terms or decide whether Sony’s infringement allegations were correct.
What happened in the lawsuit?
Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC sued Tencent Holdings Ltd. and other defendants in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The case was Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC v. Tencent Holdings Ltd. et al., No. 3:25-cv-06275. Sony filed its complaint on July 25, 2025, seeking to stop the planned release of Tencent’s game Light of Motiram. The docket index identifies the case and its filings.
Sony alleged that the game copied protected elements of its Horizon games, including audiovisual material and protagonist-related branding. Sony described Light of Motiram as a “slavish clone.” Those were accusations in Sony’s complaint, not findings by a judge. The complaint sets out Sony’s allegations.
How did the case end?
On December 17, 2025, Sony filed a stipulation for dismissal under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 41(a)(1)(A)(ii), according to the docket index. Game Developer reported the next day that the parties had reached a confidential settlement and described the dismissal as with prejudice.

That means the lawsuit is over; it does not mean a court ruled on the merits. The available public sources do not identify a trial verdict or other merits judgment deciding the copyright, trademark, or infringement questions.
What are the settlement terms?
The terms are confidential. The public sources cited here do not disclose whether money changed hands, whether either party made an admission, whether a license was agreed, or what future obligations the parties may have accepted. Tencent Americas communications head Sean Durkin said, as quoted by Game Developer: “SIE and Tencent are pleased to have reached a confidential resolution and will have no further public comment on this matter.”

Because the terms are private and the case ended without a public merits decision, the settlement alone does not establish that Sony won its claims or that Tencent admitted infringement.

PC Gamer reported on December 18, 2025, that Light of Motiram’s pages had been removed from Steam and the Epic Games Store. That is a time-specific report about those storefront listings, not confirmation that the game was permanently canceled or unavailable everywhere. The public information cited here does not establish the game’s long-term release plans.
