Sony reported ¥1,071.530 billion in Game & Network Services (G&NS) segment sales for the fiscal quarter ended September 30, 2024. GamesBeat rendered that figure as $7.01 billion and reported a 12% year-over-year increase. The dollar figure covers Sony’s entire G&NS segment—not PlayStation Network or subscription revenue alone.
What Sony reported for the quarter
Sony’s fiscal second quarter of FY2025 ended September 30, 2024. Its supplemental financial disclosure reports G&NS segment sales of ¥1,071.530 billion. GamesBeat’s November 8, 2024 coverage described the result as $7.01 billion, up 12% year over year, and reported segment operating income of ¥138.8 billion, or 2.8 times the year-earlier result.
The sales figure is a segment total, not a measure of PlayStation Plus revenue or network services alone. Sony groups hardware, game software, network services and other items within G&NS. It defines Network Services as revenue recognized through PlayStation Network from PlayStation Plus and advertising, excluding Game Software revenue. Sony’s FY25.2Q supplemental information provides the category definitions and quarterly figures; GamesBeat’s November 8, 2024 report supplies the dollar rendering and summarized year-over-year comparisons.
Sales growth and operating income tell different parts of the story
GamesBeat attributed the sales increase to higher third-party game software sales, favorable foreign exchange and increased network-service sales. Lower hardware sales offset some of that growth. It attributed the operating-income improvement to better hardware profitability, stronger third-party software sales and higher network-service sales. Those are several contributors, not evidence that one game or service drove the segment-wide result.

- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)

Sales measure the segment’s recognized revenue; operating income reflects what remained after its operating costs. The reported ¥138.8 billion operating-income result therefore adds context to the sales growth, but it is a separate measure.
PlayStation activity was mixed
Sony’s supplemental data separates revenue from unit counts and its estimate of active accounts. The following figures cover the quarter unless a different date or definition is specified.

| Measure | Reported figure | What it indicates |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 hardware units sold | 3.8 million | Down from 4.9 million in the year-earlier quarter, according to GamesBeat’s account of Sony’s results. |
| Full-game software units | 77.7 million | Units across PS4 and PS5. |
| First-party full-game units | 5.3 million | A portion of the reported full-game software units. |
| Full-game digital-download ratio | 70% | Share of PS4 and PS5 full-game units sold that were digital downloads. |
| PlayStation Network monthly active users | 116 million | Sony’s estimate of unique accounts that played games or used PSN services during the quarter’s final month. |
The monthly active-user count is an estimated account measure, not a count of individual people or paying subscribers. Sony says it is based on its research and may be updated. The software figures are unit sales, not revenue, and should not be added to segment sales.
What the figures do—and do not—say about individual games
Sony reported cumulative sell-through of 1.5 million units for ASTRO BOT as of November 3, 2024. That is a title-specific figure with a later cutoff than the quarter end. It does not establish that the game caused the broader G&NS sales increase.
