Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, distributed by Sony’s Crunchyroll, opened at No. 1 in North America over October 24–26, 2025, ahead of Disney/20th Century’s Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere. Variety reported $17.2 million from 3,003 theaters, while the Associated Press reported $17.25 million in the United States and Canada. That was a clear weekend win—not evidence that Sony beat Disney across the year or overall box office.
How much did Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc earn?
The reported opening depended slightly on the outlet and how precisely it stated the estimate. Variety put the film at $17.2 million across 3,003 North American theaters. The Associated Press, citing Comscore, reported $17.25 million in the United States and Canada. Those are separate published figures, not a reason to claim more precision than either report supports.
The figures cover the October 24–26, 2025 opening weekend. They are not the film’s current cumulative theatrical gross.
How did it compare with Disney’s Springsteen film?
Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, released by Disney/20th Century, opened behind Reze Arc. Variety reported about $9 million; the Associated Press and TheWrap reported $9.1 million.
#1 Best Overall
| Film | Opening report | Territory or theater count stated |
|---|---|---|
| Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc | Variety: $17.2 million | North America; 3,003 theaters |
| Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc | Associated Press, citing Comscore: $17.25 million | United States and Canada; theater count not stated in this AP figure |
| Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere | Variety: about $9 million | Theater count not stated in the cited report |
| Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere | Associated Press and TheWrap: $9.1 million | Theater count not stated in these figures |
Because the reports use different territory descriptions and levels of rounding, the figures are best read as each outlet reported them, rather than as perfectly matched accounting. Either way, the anime film’s opening was substantially larger than the Springsteen film’s reported opening.
What does “Sony topples Disney” mean here?
It describes one specific North American opening-weekend result: Sony/Crunchyroll’s Reze Arc led the October 24–26 chart, while Disney/20th Century’s Springsteen opened lower. It does not establish that Sony beat Disney over a full season, year, or across all of their theatrical releases. The cited weekend reports do not provide those broader comparisons.

Why this anime release drew attention
Reze Arc is tied to Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man manga, which gives existing readers a direct connection to the source material. The box-office result, however, is an opening-weekend measurement—not a general survey of anime audiences or proof of what drove individual moviegoers to theaters.
